View Full Version : Cysto with Hydro Tomorrow...Scared

My urologist has done numerous tests on me in an effort to find the cause of my urethra/bladder discomfort (ultrasound, CT, blood test, cultures) and all tests have come back perfectly normal. Tomorrow I go in for cysto with hydro and I'm petrified. Part of me believes that I have IC (there aren't many more conditions that fit, kinda worried about a narrow urethra/scar tissue and muscle spasms). I'm so nervous about the test and recovery. I've heard horror stories about the cysto procedure and healing process. I'm very susceptible to infections and am praying that my body heals well. I think above all else (like the pain and possible infection) I'm most scared that this test will come back like all the others-normal. I've never wanted to hear bad news more than now-I just want to know the problem so I can deal with it. I know that IC can present with what appears to be a healthy bladder but don't know how I can ever expect a true diagnosis then. What if he finds nothing tomorrow? Do I begin an IC treatment as a test run? Or just try to wait it out a while longer and do another cysto?

Any words of advice would be appreciated

Kem,
You are right, the cysto/hydro can cause some unwanted pain but then most any surgery does and so will require at least a few days of recovery.. I hope yours goes smoothly for you....some have minimal pain and recovery time and for others it is more painful and may take a week or more to get back to pre-hydro symptoms; either way is normal...please keep us posted on how you are doing and what results you have post op. This is a great place for info and support, so don't hesitate to ask if you have questions about anything!!
Welcome to ICN :hi:

First of all, it's normal and healthy to be nervous about a surgical procedure. I have had 42 hydros and am still nervous every time. I hope you will be among those of us who find relief from hydrodistention.

I hope it goes well for you tomorrow.

Sending gentle hugs,
Donna

Hope everything goes well. I am one that have hydro's done every 6 months or so for treatment. I usually have some pain for the first day or two, which is why since I work I schedule these on Thursday or Friday. Good luck.
