Hey guys havent posted in a long time but i have been caught up in my health drama (arent we all).. I'm starting to freak out cause as of yesterday its a month untill surgery. I started seeing a new gyno in my uro building and he recomended doing the lap and my uro wants to do the hydro cysto at the same time. the gyno is also going to be putting in mirena (birth control) at the same time ( i havent made up my mind if i want to do that yet but he insists that i do)... I'm starting to freak out because I have never been cut into before and I dont want to wake up and be in pain. The only other times I have been put out was for my first hydro cycsto and for my impacted wisdom teeth. The werid thing is is that i dont have a normal case if IC. I was seeing a diffrent uro when I had my first hydro done. He came out and said my bladder looked normal as if I didnt have IC. I dont even have the reg IC symptoms. i only have extreme pain before during and after urination. I have painful sex and then my urethra burns all the time.. i dont have any of the frequency or urgency just pain.. The werid thing is , i had the potassum test done back in 06 with a diffrent uro and i came off the table when he did it beucase it was so painful so i know somthing has to be wrong... I also have been dig with PCOS, and pfd and vestibulitis? So now i guess im going to have the lap to maybe see if i have endo? This all sucks and im only 20. I will be 21 in july so I hope I will have some answers before my birthday. I have had this pain sence i was 4 years old so living with it this long i would love for some actull reason to why i have pain instead of this garbage they keep feeding me. Anyways I am having the surgery on april 16th which is a thurs. i work in a mail room in a college so i lift stuff sometimes. I told my boss iwould be back on a monday. Is that too soon? What do i expect?? I'm so scared to wake up and be in pain. I hate pain meds too... I dont do well with anesthesia cause I freak out cause im a control freak.. So please tell me ur experience with it. anything would help:) Thanks so much!!

As far as the lap, when I had it done on Friday I was able to go back to work that Monday.. But the cysto/hydo was a different story.. But if you did good with your first one you should do ok with your second one.. I wish you the best of luck and I pray you get some answers!!!

I wanted to wish you the best of luck.
Everyone is so different with recovery. It kind of depends how much work the drs do with the lap. I know I have had many many laps...just had another 3 weeks ago.
Any way the laps that most drs do are under an hour. My laps are normally 5-6 hrs because of all the endo all over every couple months. So my recovery is not like the "normal" BUT most people can go back to work in a day or so.
Just follow your body and rest when you need to if you can.

GOOD LUCK!!

Hey Kalie! :welcome:

I understand your nerves. I have had both procedures done just recently.

I had laparoscopy in December 2008 because my OB-Gyn and Fertility Specialist suspected Endometriosis. I was a little nervous at first but i knew i was in good hands with my doctor. I woke up from the lap in some pain, but it was quickly managed by IV medication. After resting in recovery for a while, i was able to get up and walk (slowly) to the recovery lounge where i was given crackers and a drink (gosh, i was starving by then), and my hubby was able to come back and sit with me. I stayed in the lounge for about an hour, and after i was able to use the bathroom, and they let me go home. I had my procedure done on Friday, but i went ahead and took Monday off too so i would have an extra day to recover. I was still a tad sore on Tuesday, but was able to work fine. I found that i didn't have to take too much of my pain medicine, but i did take it when i needed it. The only really discomfort i felt during that recovery was getting up from a laying position to stand - just a little uncomfortable, but that quickly went away. I did get up and walk around a bit. Overall, i would do it over again if it was necessary.

I had my cysto/hydro/biopsy on Feb. 27. Pre-op was pretty much the same, as was the recovery room/lounge. During both procedures, you will have a nurse assigned to you and the anesthesiologist and doctor will come by to talk to you. I was also able to have my hubby back with me until i was taken to the OR, which made me feel better. When i woke up from the cysto/hydro, i wasn't in too much pain, but my recovery nurse made me more comfortable with IV medication. After resting for a bit, she helped me out of bed and walked me to the recovery lounge, where again, i was given crackers and a drink, and my hubby and parents came back to sit with me. Again, you have to be able to go to the bathroom before you are allowed to go home. It took me a while to go to the bathroom, but no one ever rushed me. I was given a little more pain medicine before i was allowed to go home and the nurse walked me out to the car. The pain with the lap is a bit different - as the muscle areas are tender from the insertion scopes - I only ended up with a small scar in my belly button and one very small scar above my bikini line. With the cysto, i experienced more cramping, a little back pain, and frequency, but nothing the pain medication, heating pad, and support from my girls here on the forum couldn't handle. This surgery was also on a Friday, and I took Monday off just to give myself an extra day.

I just re-read your post and noticed you are having both done at the same time. You may want to take an extra day or so off to allow for recovery. I took Monday off too, but told my boss i would be in if i felt up to it. You just need to be sure you don't overdo it. Just rest and take your meds as directed by your doctor and be sure you call your doctor if you have any questions.

So, try not to be scared. After going through so many different doctors to get to where i am today, i was SO ready to have the procedure done, and i trusted both of my doctors totally. Just be sure to have your medications filled, have a heating pad handy, some good movies, and someone to help you get around if you need it. I am so glad that i went through both procedures, and i would do them both over again if needed...i now have peace of mind instead of wondering. Also, visiting this forum for support has helped me a lot - it has been a wonderful source of information and moral support.

If you have any other questions, please feel free to send me a PM. I was like you, a little nervous after reading some experiences, but I got through mine just fine and have a diagnosis so that i can move on with my life and treat this thing. Keep us updated and let me know if you need anything!
