Does anyone else have exhaustion when they have a flair. I seem to be just wiped out - even if I slept pretty good at night. I could take a nap everyday. When I feel good I feel perky, but when I flair I'm down and out. Is this just me????

Nope. I'm tired a lot. And I nap almost every weekend or day when I'm not working.
I wish I had a good answer for us, except to just nap when we can & try to keep our
stress level down as much as possible.

I would say that it is pretty normal. You are under duress because of the flare which would cause you to be more tired. Go with it and rest when you need to.

Yes I definitely find I'm more wiped out when in a flare. Maybe it's just that it takes all I have to stand up straight when in a flare.-J

I feel tired most of the time no matter what but when the pain is worse then I feel even more tired.

Hey Dawn,

I think the "ongoing trauma" of having IC can just "suck the life of us" most of the time. Add to that the sleep interuptions we have to deal with from our nocturnia, and well ... it is pretty much a perfect recipe for chronic exhaustion as well.

Even when I am having a "good day" I usually cannot make it through the day/evening without at least a little nap somewhere along the way ... And sometimes I will be wide awake, and then just all of a sudden my eyes get SO heavy, I nearly fall asleep where I am sitting!

Since my bladder and body are hard at work all the time participating in and battling against the IC, I assume that sometimes I need to just "shut down" so my body can take over and use the energy that is required for me stay awake.

Maybe we should just add "chronic exhaustion" to the long list of symptoms that can come with IC...

Our doctor says that being uncomfortable/painful is one of the most common causes of fatigue. I just rest when I need to and accept that I will get tired.

Yes me too Dawn, at first I fought it trying to overcome it and because I did it this way it made it worst. When I learned that I will have these days and learned to rest with it, knowing better days are ahead, I don't get myself so stress out. It is not just you hun, thankful we have others to talk wiith about these things, so we know it is not "just me".

right now I feel shaky I'm so tired. And haven't did anything! I read somewhere here that there is some icer's that do have fatigue as a symptom. That's VERY true for me. It's what I term as "beyond tired" it's debilitating in itself!!

Yes diane, I get depressed too for being exhausted all the time!

Here's to better days!!! Hugs and blessings

I too am more tired if my bladder is in an uproar. Early on I started taking naps because I was exhausted from sleep interuptions to go pee. I am retired so i can lie down whenever I fell like it.

I've been tired all the time lately. I don't have time to take a nap everyday. I need to study everyday because my school schedule is getting harder and I'm going to be working 12 hour shifts on my days off. I feel too tired to do it though. I just want to come home and go to bed.

Flares really wear me out too. I feel like my energy level is zapped by 200% when I'm flaring or have a uti. It's a crying shame what this disease is doing to us. I pray every night for a cure.

Keep The Faith:pray:

I hope there are a lot of research funds for this disease.
There was no problem finding a medicine for E.D.

I'm tired most days, but I work 40 hours week, have a family; so I go till the weekend (usually Saturday) and I pass out and sleep most of the day.

Not trying to sound sexist, but E.D. is a man's disease, and I don't know about everyone else, but it seems like there is MUCH more research on those types of illnesses. Again...not trying to be sexist, and I also know men can suffer from this horrible disease of IC as well.

God Bless all of you who sleep. I get no more than 3-4, and that's on my BEST nights. My bladder wakes me up. It is one of the WORST part of this disease.

Nap when you can and keep the Faith.

I agree with you Elaine. I think IC is mostly seen as a woman's disease, even though it isn't! Probably many more men have it then are diagnosed because they seem to always think it's prostate. A lot of bladder things seem to be thought of as a woman's disease...in a lot of pharmacies the AZO, Cystex and UTI test strips and the like are kept with the pads and tampons...guys can get UTIs too (even though it is more common in women)! That'd be so awkward I'd imagine!! Anyway, it seems like things like IC and chronic UTIs (and chronic vaginal infections for that matter) just get brushed off as no big deal. It makes you wonder if they're be better treatments for things if they were known to affect more men. Or is it just because most people don't even know what IC is???

I did not know about this disease until I was diagnosed. I didn't find this site for 2 months.I really felt alone and scared.

I don't mean to be sexist either, but I know if men suffered from this disease as much as women do there would be effective treatment for everyone out there.

I didn't know about it until my aunt told me that's what her friend had and not much longer after that I was diagnosed. Most people I know have never heard of it either. I told some of my teachers I have it and they knew what it was and so did someone in my class who's been an aide for 12 years...they all said "oh" when I told them I had it like I said I had a brain tumor or something.

Amen to that. I know that's right girl. It's still man's world.

I am totally exhausted all of the time. We all are. I would think, with just the bathroom trips alone. Then add most of our other ailments. Don't understand why all the meds they prescribe us make us more tired, plus with my low blood pressure some of them make me almost pass out. Luck to all. Sherry

What meds used for IC can make you more tired? I know antihistamines and anti-anxiety meds can, anything else?

I can't ever take any meds for my IC except for Elmiron, because, my IC brought on Urinary Retention.

Honest? I drink for relief......

I'm sorry.....my dr gave me xanax, which is the ONLY medication that does not cause retention. Thank God for that.....

I did think it was just me, but I see it is not. I am so tired all the time no matter what I do. I can wake up thinking I feel good and quickly I'm so tired I have hard time staying awake. I work mon-fri,8-5 and sometimes by 6 that night I am ready for bed. There are many times i will go to bed at 9 and if it is a friday or saturday not get up until 1030-11. My husband says that is bad,but I must need the sleep right? My bladder hurts afterwards becuase I take meds at night to be able to sleep.

This is a cruel disease...it robs you of everything. I cannot even nap because my bladder will wake me up. Usually, when I get up at night to pee, I am in retention. I have to sit there for 10 minutes and rub my sore bladder.

Yeah, I'm in nursing school and I can't scrub into surgery like everyone else because of this disease. I'll have to stand far away in case I have to leave to go to the bathroom. I have to sit on a pillow in class because I hurt and everyone stares at me.
