I have been taking elmiron for a month now. AND i was wondering if anyone else has had any of these problems or symptoms or i don't know what to call it really. But my doctor told me to take it three times a day , before i ate. THe thing that comes with medicine from the pharmacy said to wait.....plus she told me it could upset my stomach , to take it out of the capsule and put it in some water. WHich i have discovered messes my stomach up either way. I haven't had any hair loss but it seems like it just drains what little energy i have out of me. I am so tired and I know part of it is because i don't sleep much , for having to go pee every twenty minutes day and night , but the fatigue seemed to get worse since taking the elmiron. ALso it makes me very nervous.......jittery like........but it could be from mixing it with the ditrapan and urelle......just not sure.......plus i swear it seems like my symptoms have gotten worse the more i take the elmiron , is that normal?? will it eventually fade when the elmiron starts actually working ?? pluse i am not sure what to expect from the elmiron is it suppose to lesson my frequency and urgency?
THey told me it could take six months to a year to even work and i am so miserable.........i just wanna be better.......i don't know how much longer i can take this ........anyway if anyone has any suggestions email me gloriabono@Yahoo.com
thanks i appreciate it.........

I have taken Elmiron for over a year, and still do not know if it is working. Experienced appetite loss, and weight loss within months of starting, but did not feel stomach problems until recently. Had fecal occult test done and discovered undetected bleeding. Had scoping of stomach and colin, and have severely inflamed, bleeding stomach, and colitis. Did not have this last year upon routine colonoscopy. The only thing that might have caused this is the Elmiron. Not sure if you will be able to tolerate it if you are having immediate reactions. Be sure and check with your doctor.

Although elmiron didn't do any of that to me and did help me I think Kiyoka reacted that way. I will email her your post so that she responds.

I got worse during my treatment on elmiron untill it started to help me. I didn't blame elmiron....I had just been getting worse and continued to get worse until it helped.

I hope you find treatment that helps you.

Best Wishes,

Kiyoka

Dear gloriabono, I'm sorry to hear you are having problems with Elmiron. I took Elmiron for five months, I stopped taking them due to the fact that I felt so much worse. I also tried to take the Elmiron out of the capsule but it didn't help. I didn't want to get up in the morning. I felt dizzy, i would throw up almost every day. I felt like I wasn't a live. I couldn't think, which is hard when your taking classes. If you would like to talk so much, your welcome to email me at kiyokascharle@yahoo.com

Hello everyone. I took Elmiron for a short month & 1/2. Because I am super sensitive to side effects of medication, I had to stop taking it. Two days after I started taking Elmiron, I had a nose bleed. Those nose bleeds continued every single day & sometimes more than once a day. My urologist took me off of Elmiron when I told him about all this bleeding. He didn't believe that the Elmiron was causing this, but I definitely do. Two days after I stopped taking the Elmiron, the nose bleeds were gone & haven't returned. I really wish that I couldv'e stuck with the Elmiron because the DMSO doesn't help me. Good Luck to all of you!

THanks for all the reply's .........i hope the elmiron will work for me eventually without all the side effects you have mentioned above. So far the only thing it does is make me kinda queasy , unless i take it out of the capsule......then its not so bad......and i am tired . very tired but that could be from other things factoring in as well.........
I have a major sore throat and stuff going on now and feel like crap........i swear it never ends........
again thanks for all the info and the kind words...........If you celebrate Easter , i hope all of you have a great one.........
take care and i am sure we'll talk again soon..........

Elmiron is a heparin like substance. It has been used in Europe in the same way as comaudin (at very high dosages) It can cause bleeding.

I do not want to alarm anyone. Your urologist should have mentioned if you are having surgery to go off elmiron. It is not HEPARIN, but it is in the family and is a mild type of heparin-like substance. There have been postings about this in the past, I am not a doctor, do not be frightened but you should know this.
