Hey everyone! I am newly diagnosed with IC. I am currently seeing Dr. Fenton in Akron, OH and he is wonderful but 4 hours aways from me. I was wondering if anyone new of any good docs in Ohio near Dayton. I am about an hour north. Thanks!

I go to Dr. Buffington in Cincy. He is one of four in five in the practice and the only one I like. I have found that he REALLY listens to me. I am doing amazing right now. What are you looking for? If you give specifics, I might be able to tell you if he would be a good match to at least try.

Thanks for your fast reply! I am looking for a doctor that listens to me...and doesn't think I'm crazy! I have been to soo many doctors and just want to find an understanding, knowledgeable one that will stick with me through think and thin. Is he a urologist or a gynecologist? Is he willing to prescribe pain meds for you. The one I am seeing now is not and while I'd rather not be on pain meds, there are days that I just can't get by without them! I am a new mommy and just want to be the best that I can be for my baby boy and wonderful husband. IC just isn't letting me live my life to the fullest!:help:
Right now I am currently on Elmiron, Trazadone for sleep, Celexa, Vicoden or Percocet as needed, and Aloe Vera capsules. I just started this regimine 2 weeks ago along with the IC diet (which is NO fun). If you can't tell, I'm a little impatient to get feeling better!

He is a Urologist. A little background... He is my 4th docter. In October, 2007 my IC got really bad. Lots of pain, frequency, urgency. Up to that point I had been taking Vesicare only. The dr. I was seeing (who is actually in the same practice) finally in April suggested a hydro/cysto. I coundn't get in to see him until late July. Dr. Buffington had an opening in June. I took it. Best thing I ever did. He performed the procedure and found that my IC was moderate to severe. He spend a lot of time talking to me prior to the procedure about my symptoms, etc and then spent time with my husband while I was in recovery explaining everything to my husband. I think that was the first time my husband actually understood what I was going thru. I don't know exactly what he said, but it dramatically changed my husbands attitude regarding my condition. When I went in for my post-op, I took a lot of info. with me from this site and other internet sites. He really listened to me and answered a lot of my questions. He is very open to different treatment options. He didn't roll his eyes at "natural" methods (ie. aloe vera - although I didn't personally go that way). Spent a lot of time talking to me about diet and what to eat and not eat. We talked about pain meds. He said that if I need them, he will prescribe them (although he does caution against them if at all possible - I think most docters would do that). Right now, I am on Elmiron and hydroxyzine. I have been symptom free for almost 9 months. I really believe that he is sympathetic and understands that IC isn't just in my head. He truely won me over with whatever he said to my husband:)
