I am still in the early very frustrating stages of figuring this whole horrible disease out. I have just started taking Urelle to try to get me through this next period. I have several doctor appts over the next few weeks scheduled, but I need relief NOW. I started Urelle yesterday and am taking it 4 times a day. I still had a really rough night last night with frequency and the constant feeling of needing to go. Can anyone tell me how long Urelle takes to work? Do I need to give it longer? Have any of you taken it long term? Thanks so much for all your opinions or any stories.

Hi kristinj -- In my experience, it takes a few days to feel the full effects of Urelle. I use it and it works well for me. I hope you feel better soon :)

Thanks Lexie. Do you take it four times a day?

Urelle stopped working for me after using if for a few months. I had to switch back to perideum plus sp? My doctor gave me a warning bout urelle. Do not take it if you wear contacts. Also do not combine with certain medications...such as perideum and a few others. The combination will make you unable to urinate and suffer more pain.

Hi there! I take prosed ds, and I find that I have to take 3 or 4 doses before I feel better. Prosed has helped me a lot, but it is so frustrating to have to wait for relief. (As an aside, I also use oxytrol patch - same as ditropan xl, and I think that has helped with the bladder spasms). Hang in there!!

It seems from the ingredients that Prosed DS and Urelle are quite similar...but one may work better than the other for any given patient. It seems we all have our preference for this class of meds as for what works best for us. I have not used either of these meds ( I take Pyridium with much success) but from what I have read and researched here on this board and other places it does seem that the meds like Prosed DS and Urelle may take a few days or more of taking it RTC ( like 3-4 times a day) to get the best relief...and then after some time on one of these meds it seems that some patients are able to reduce their dose to as little as one tab a day after symptoms are under control.
Pyridium does seem to be faster acting, but for some Prosed DS and Urelle may work better (the ingredients are much different from Pyridium)..even tho they may work for the same symptoms), and they are often reported to be more safe to take RTC on longterm basis than is Pyridium. I take Pyridium sparingly on an as needed basis with permission from my dr...not RTC nor everyday.

Sometimes I take it 4 times a day, if needed. Now I take one pill when I wake up, another when I get home from work, and one before I go to bed.

Does anyone feel that Urelle causes drowsiness? I feel that it may be making me drowsy- but again, hard to tell since I am waking a lot at night too! If anyone feels that it causes drowsiness, did it get better over time? Thanks.

I take Urelle and have for about 3 years. It dries my mouth out horribly, but it does alot for the spasming.

Call Pharmelle and check with them. They're really nice, and if I had their number handy, I'd give it to you but I have a couple of things to do here before leaving. Try typing "Get Human" -- data base for getting RIGHT to a human. They're located in Arizona as far as I know.

Hope that helps.

Urelle works well for me. Twice I've tried to cut it down to 2 pills a day (because it's expensive for me) and I've paid the price! It doesn't hit me that day, but the next day and the day after I have to use the bathroom all the time and the pain increases. I'm hoping that someday I won't have to take it or take it as often, but for now I've kind of resolved that I need it in order to function. I called our mail-order pharmacy with my insurance yesterday and he told me that a generic form of Urelle just came out 2/25/09 - I'm not sure I believe him. I've gotten my hopes up before that I would find a cheaper version, but I haven't yet.

Hey Stacey-

Do you use it 4 times a day? What times of the day do you take it? I notice the same thing about Urelle. It stays in your system for awhile, and takes a little longer to get in. Totally different than pyridium, so I have a hard time being patient with Urelle. Stacey do you mind if I ask if you take anything else? Or just the Urelle? Thanks.

I take Urelle in the morning and then after lunch and then around 7:00pm at night. I am taking a few other things lol.

elevil 20mg at night
glucosamine/msm 2 in the morning 2 at night
cystoprek 2 in the morning 2 at night
PB8 (probiotic) 2 in the morning
soluble fiber 5 daily
just started elmiron (it is really giving me indigestion - I've been taking it out of the capsules and putting it in water, but it's not stomach problems with it - just the indigestion - which could be some other problem all together??)
synthroid - hypothyroidism
Acupuncture - started the end of Jan - really helped me!
Res?? - for dry eyes

Being new to the I.C. - symptoms coming in June 08 and then getting worse in Jan 09thing and not having a doctor that understood my pain and symptoms I started on a lot of things that people recommended on this site. I think the cystoprek/glucosamine combo did help me and I don't want to quit them just yet. I work full time and have two young kids, so I'm taking advantage what Urelle does for me - hard to keep score at a baseball game if I have to go to the bathroom every 15 minutes! I'm finding that my menstrual cycle really has a lot to do with the pain that I get in the lower back/bladder/middle-lower abdomen. I've been charting my pain during the month and am hoping that I can see when I spike and maybe get on continuous birthcontrol. I have a lot of muscle/joint pain and I'm not sure if that's from the hypothyroidism of it could be fibromyalgia or something else. Just going to wait and see what happens in a month or two and go from there.

Yup, it makes me very drowsy. Plust it's additive. The more days I take it, the more drowsy I am.

Does anyone know if you can take Cystoprex with Urelle? Im headed out of the country and having a lot of discomfort. Im looking for relief anyhow I can. I know the pharmacist told me to wait cause I was taking AZO. I don't usually get these symptoms so bad but I'v ebeen super anxious for this trip and know that is what it has to do with. THANKS

Hi blondyinnh :)

I take both Urelle and Cystoprotek together. No problems. I've been doing this for about 2 1/2 now. But, don't take Urelle and AZO together. Both drugs have the same (or similar)effects and taking them together won't help.

Have fun overseas and hope you feel better soon!
