My uro suggested I use Prelief with every meal and after an extensive search and mailing from miles away I finally got some (live in Canada) Now the problem I'm having by using these pills is that my bowels are acting up. I'm very loose and getting cramp like I have diarhea. Anyone else have this problem? is this common?

I have no side effects from Prelief. I noticed you take Elmiron. I have your symptoms due to the Elmiron. I didn't start having the diarrhea until about 2 to 3 months into taking Elmiron. I'm not sure if this is what is happening to you but its worth asking your doctor.

I have used prelief and have not had problems with it. I use it sparingly as you don't get many pills for $10.99 a bottle....wish it were cheaper.

wow...$10 would be a great price to pay, if I bought them in Canada I have to pay $35. My mom travels to Washington State and gets me bottles there...so there is still the exchange and the price of mailing them

How often do you all use Prelief? With every meal? I am brand new here and trying to get out of this very bad flare that I am having. I just started the IC diet and I just got some prelief. Do you take it only when you eat suspected "bad" foods or do you take it all the time? Thanks for any help.

Prelief causes constipation for me. I use it very sparingly and try to eat primarily the strict to moderate version of the IC diet. :smile tee

kristinj...This is the link for information about Prelief:
http://www.akpharma.com/prelief/preliefindex.html

As far as what I do with it...You can tell by my join date that I have been at this a while and have learned to take 2 tabs every time I eat a meal that might cause me problems...like when I eat out and don't know the ingredients. In the beginning, I did take it with every meal and snack because I really did not know my triggers very well. You might want to do that because of the flare you are in right now.

I have also learned to take 2 tabs with water if I feel a flare coming on even if it has been a while since I ate or drank any thing suspicious. For me, a flare means an increase in the burning sensation I feel almost all the time.

Have you checked the price here in the ICN Shop?

And yes, even though I do not need to take them very often, I truly think it helps to take them before a "maybe item" -- and definitely before a "no-no" item. It would also be well worth it, like Sharon said, to take a few before eating a "I can't be sure item"!!

Take care,
~Beth

I don't take it with every meal, but do if I'm going to eat something questionable.

DONNA,
DO YOU KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THE ANTIBIOTIC LEVEQUIN? I HAD A SINUS INFECTION LAST WEEK AND THE DR. PERSCRIBED IT. IT GAME ME A HORRIBLE BURNING SENSATION IN THE BLADDER, AND I QUIT TAKING IT. IS THIS COMMON AND DO I NEED TO STAY AWAY FROM ANTIOBIOTICS COMPLETELY?
:help:

I have just bought some Prelief from the ICN shop after I couldn't find it anywhere! I read online that Prelief is sold at Walgreens, and I have been to several stores and have not found it. Does anyone else have this problem?

The other two stores that prelief.com says they sell them at in Texas I have never heard of. Walgreens is a giant chain here in Houston, but I can't seem to find a bottle for the life of me!

I live in CA. My husband went to Long's Drugs and asked the pharmacist and they ordered it for him. They had it by the next morning. Make sure to ask if you don't see it on the shelf! Good luck-

I will admit that I haven't been able to tell whether prelief helps me or not. I still take it occasionally, like during the holidays when I was cheating at dinner with a little white wine.

As far as I can tell, Prelief is simply a very fast-dissolving form of calcium, which acts to alkalize whatever follows it down your gullet. Calcium is often more constipating than not, so I agree with the poster above that you might look at the Elmiron as a source of the problem. How long have you been on it? Is it helping otherwise? What about cutting back to 200mg a day for a little while to see if that helps? Ask your doc first, of course, but I felt I was having some uncommon side effects (not intestinal) from the Elmiron after a couple of months and my doctor seemed to think I could try taking 2 pills a day instead of three and see what happened. I did that for about three weeks, I had no flares during that time, and now I'm back up to 3 pills a day and so far no more side-effects, knock on...whatever.

well I finally found out what the problem was....the Prelief I was using had expired. My Mom bought it for me at Walgreens in San Diego when she was there. Didn't think much of it until a few days ago I looked at the expiry date and it was 2005!!!!! I can't believe they still had it on the shelf.
As far as buying them on the ICN shop, the price is what my Mom pays when she goes to Washington. If I bought it here I would have to pay duty and mailing costs. But thanks for the suggestion BT2008

To those of you who use Prelief, do you literally take it as you are about to put the food in your mouth? I tried it a few times several minutes early, and it seemed to give me a nauseus feeling. Do most of you take two tablets at a time?
Thank you,
Karen

I usually take it after a few bites of food...dont know if that's right or not but I've never been nauseous.
