Hey everyone. I am having a cysto with hydrodistention this Thursday and am soo scared about the amount of pain afterwards and the possiblity of a severe flare. I am already in constant pain and dont know if I could hadle it if it got worse. I have read soo many negative stories on here about cystos with hydrodistention. I had a cysto without hydrodistention in January that showed chronic mild inflammation in the trigone area and my bladder capacity was 500 cc. I was under general anesthesia for this. My new doc wants to do the hydrodistention to see the damage for himself and hopefully to help with my symptoms. Has anyone out there had a positive experience with this procedure!?
When I had mine done, it was a pretty simple surgery. I felt a little more flared than usual for several days (but nothing scary) & by the third day post-surgery, I was back to my previous level of IC. I didn't get improvement from the procedure, but in my years reading & posting here, I've seen a number of patients actually get symptom improvement from it... For me, I was just relieved that the problem had been made visible & that we then knew what I had which gave me hope that I would get better.

Hi, I had one in November that was a very positive experience! The previous ones I had they never gave me any pain meds, and I was much more uncomfortable, but this last one, they did give me some pain meds IV and also B and O supp, even following the procedure I was impressed at how well I did, I had some pressure and spasms but no major flare like I had previously. However, I did have increase frequency and some soreness, but it was not like my previous Hydro's and it only lasted a week. I was really suprised how well I was after the procedure, I was expecting much worse. I know we are all different though. I did notice improvement but only for a few weeks, so it really didn't work for me, but again we are all different. I hope this goes well for you. :)

I'm among those who are helped by hydrodistention. I always plan on taking it easy for at least a few days afterwards.

:grouphug: Sending some hugs your way...
Try not to be nervous...the anticipation is was the worst for me, i was just ready to get it over with. I had mine done this past Friday, and i am feeling much better now. I have even noticed that my bladder can hold more and that i am not getting up as much at night to pee right now. My doctor said i might not feel that great for a few days, and he was right, but it was nothing that rest, meds, a heating pad, and support from my friends here couldn't get me through. It was well worth it, to get this dx i have waited so long for. I was in a minor flare already when i went in, and felt pretty decent with the medications i was given until Saturday evening, then i started feeling it a bit more. But, my doc told me that was normal and to take it easy, and that is exactly what i did. It was over really quickly, and i am glad i had it done...i do not regret it at all. Just be sure you follow your doctor's directions and take it really easy and rest as much as possible. Keep us updated and best of luck!

I don't know if you will read this before you have the procedure, but wanted you to know that I did not have any problems at all afterwards. I did experience some pinching like pain with the first few voids and some light blood when I wiped, but all in all it was not bad. I took it easy the day of and the day after, but was able to go about what I needed to do the day after.
Please let us know how you are feeling when you are up to it. :)

Other than some stinging and passing a tiny bit of blood upon urination the first few times after the procedure I had no issues. I had it done, left the recovery room one hour afterwards, came home, slept off anesthesia then went out to dinner with the family. No problem whatsoever.
Hopefully your experience will be just as uneventful and like some people this will prove to be beneficial to you.
Wishing you well...
Diana :)
