Hey everyone. On February 26 I was diagnosed with IC after a cysto and a potassium chloride test. This was actually my second time being diagnosed, as I also had a cysto done (no PC test) January 16 and was told by another urologist I had it as well.
The January 16th cysto went fine and didn't cause me much pain during or afterward. She just used water to look around. She said I had increased vascularity and moderate bowel pressure on my bladder.
The February 26th one, my 2nd opinion, was done by a well respected urologist in my area. He did the PC test on me, and when the water went in I said my pain was a 3 or 4.... when the PC went in I said it was a 5 or 6. But here's the thing... it really didn't hurt that much more than the water so I'm wondering if it was just in my head. I mean, from what I've read on here, a lot of you say that when you had this test, when the potassium went in you felt like you were gonna die. Is that how I should have felt? Do I really have IC? I'm just confused. I mean, the truth is that I'm 99.9% positive I do. I just guess I don't want to believe it. When he was looking around he saw the same increased vascularity and said it didn't look too bad and not what he usually saw in IC patients. He then looked at the top of my bladder where he saw two little half circle looking things. He said they should be full circles, whatever they are. He then also said I had a shorter than normal tube thing there (I can't remember the actual word he used.)
By the way, since this pain started in 09/07 I've had countless urine cultures that have always been negative and normal. I should note that in October 07 after a laproscopy a vaginal DNA probe showed a high level of strep b which I was treated for with penicillin. I also tested positive again in early January 2009 for strep b and was treated this time with penicillin vk. I've read a lot about how many of you, like me, have been diagnosed with strep b before being diagnosed with IC. I can't help but think maybe its the strep b having regrown again in me causing my pain.
I can't help but wonder if I should ask to be treated for E.coli and/or ureaplasma before accepting the IC diagnosis. I've read that you can have these and test negative still.
Your thoughts, as always, are greatly appreciated!
