I just checked and this is a rare, but possible, side effect of Sanctura. I suggest you contact your doctor and ask for something different.

I am on SanturaXR. Take it first thing when I wake up in the morning on an empty stomach. It made me sleepy when I first started.

Tammy- does Sanctura help you? I am also on it right now. I posted a question asking how long it takes to work but I think it is a new med and maybe not too many have tried it? I am on day 7 of taking it. My doc said to give it at least a week. My frequency is definitely less, but I still feel urgency quite a bit. I'm trying to figure out how long to give it before I decide if it works or not. Any advice you can give is great. Thanks!!

I tried Sanctura, I take Ditropan XL now, every now and than I switch to Enablex for a week. Than back to ditropan. When I flare I need enablex which is stronger. Sanctura made me have more urgency, and cloudy mind. I hate medicine head.

kristinj- The Santura seems to help me have a few more seconds with urgency to get to the bathroom in time. The frequency still seems to be there but it varies with how irritated my bladder seems to be. It can vary between 20 (on a good day)to 40 times a day (during a flare). I was on Detrol LA before, my uro/gyn told me he was having success with the Santura with other IC patients and it did not go through your liver but straight to your bladder. Whether that is fact or not I do not know. I have switched between the two the last eight months and have not been able to notice a real difference. I hope it starts working good for you. It may take being on it longer to notice a change. Sorry I could not be more helpful.

I should add to this thread that I have now been on Sanctura for about a month and I have seen drastic improvement. I also recently added Elavil 10mg at night. It's been about a week now on Elavil. I feel almost normal!!!!! I might add also, that I completely follow the IC diet. I felt hopeless a month ago- now I feel pretty good again. :)

I think I might have to give Sanctura another go. I had tried it before and it made me retain really bad but I was also using Tramadol during that period and I think that's why.

It's been months since then though and I still have my doctors Sanctura samples. I've been going through a REALLY bad flare (it's that time of the month) and I decided to try it again and pretty much immediately, the extreme need to pee stopped. I really hope this works.

I really hope it works for you this time! I have been taking Sanctura for over two months now and plan to stay on it for awhile. It took a week or two for me to really notice a difference but I think it drastically helped with my frequency and urgency. I also added Elavil which has also helped. But I do struggle with the hunger side effect of the Elavil too! :)

Yep. I hope it helps me too. I just need to give it time.

I'm trying Sanctura starting tomorrow. I'd never heard of it until the new urologist handed it to me (which was really frustrating, because he said, "these are the treatments, I can offer you. If they don't work, you need to go to Dr. B____, because he's interested in IC."

If it causes severe insomnia, I'll have to quit it... I'm already on imipramine at night, and it reduces my nocturia from every forty-five minutes to two to four times a night on average.

Good luck with the Sanctura Lisa. I have now been taking it for a few months now and haven't had any major side effects. In the beginning (maybe first week or two) I noticed some dry mouth and some dizziness, but now I am totally fine with no side effects. I take amitriptyline at night (10 mg) and sleep great most nights. A big improvement from where I was a few months ago- which was not sleeping at all! Good luck to you-

I was on Sanctura XR for about 7 weeks. It did not help at all. Just had the usual side effects tho, constipation and dry mouth, no sleeping problems or anything else. Hope it works for you. My doc is trying me on Toviaz now. Been on it 1 week, dont notice anything yet.
