Hello everyone. I have a feeling I may be pregnant but I won't know for sure until Friday when I go to the doctor, which is also the day my period should be due. My doctor had given me some hydrocodone to take sparingly when I'm in a lot of pain, but shouldn't take every day. Have any of you taken this medicine while pregnant? Did your baby have any problems because of it? I was taking tramadol every day but stopped when my doctor told me it was a class c. Also does anyone know if atarax is safe? Thanks everyone for your help.

I had to take it for the horrid pain in my jaw. The ER doc gave it to me. Then I had two wisdom teeth out & didn't need a pain med after that :) My baby is still doing well and that was just a few weeks ago...I'll be 27 weeks along this Wed. I don't like that med though, cause it upsets my stomach & messes with my head. I'm sure you'll be fine if you're pregnant :)

Hello! This is the info my Dr gave me, but you should call your own Dr to see of they might give you different advice...Atarax has been linked to abnormalities in the fetus when used in the first trimester, so you should absolutely not take that. Also, while I was trying to get pregnant my Dr said I could take the hydrocodone until I found out for sure that I was. When I found out I was pregnant, she took me off the hydrocodone and switched it to a different pain med. Good luck on Friday!!!

I was always told that if you have any kind of inclination that you may be pregnant you should not take any drugs unless your gyne says it is ok. There are alot of drugs out there that can seriously hurt the fetus. You should call your gyne or the office and tell them you think you may be pregnant and see if it is safe for you to continue the meds you are on. I remember when I was pregnant my gyne said that even taking over the counter asprin and stuff is not a good idea unless absolutely nessasary. Things may have changed since then though. Anyhow, I say give the gyne a ring and ask her.

Both my IC doctor and ob-gyn told me it was safe to take hydroxyzine (generic for atarax and vistaril) during the first trimester. Hydroxyzine has been around a long time. I suppose every doctor is different on his/her views on meds.
I never took pain meds during my pregnancy even when I was in bad pain, so I can't help you there.

Look up on the internet what pregnancy catagory it is. If you are in that bad of pain that you can not wait till the morning to ask the ob office you could call a 24 hour pharmacy and ask the pharmacist.

I talked to my doctor today. I'm pregnant also, though i dont know how far along I am because I have periods while pregnant. I know that sounds strange but with my last child it was the same way. My ultrasound then showed me 2 months furthur along than what i could count using the traditional "missing period" method. I will be taking narcotic pain medication when absolutly needed. I think each doctor has their own ideas on all medications and each mother is different. I took pain medications during my last pregnancy also and everything was fine. Good communication and a doctor that knows about ic are a must. My thoughts and prayers are with you as i hope yours will be with me. Take care

I had to stop taking my tramadol while pregnant and then I was prescribed 5mg hydrocodones. I could take two a day. That really helped me through my pregnancy, it actually was the only thing that got me through all the pain!
