hospitalized from instills

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I had my 5th instill on Monday. By that afternoon I was in severe pain. I walked into emerg. and ended up admitted for 4 days. I was put on morphine for the pain. They asked me to wait a minimum of 10 days before they try instills again. I am apprehensive of the hole thing. Unfortunately this is my next step to try and get some comfort. I am still on Elmiron and Hydroxyzine. I just may need something to relax me before the procedure. I was nervous enough before. Now I am nervous as can be.

I feel so sorry for you. I can understand why you are apprehensive. I would be too. I hope they know why you had the reaction. Until I knew what could have caused the reaction it would be just about impossible for me to consider having another instill.

I hope they will give you something to help relax before trying again.

I am really sorry that you had such a horrible experience. Hope you are better now.

Could you tell us what was in your instill?

I am taking: 20,000 U Heparin, 8cc Llocaine, 4cc HCO3 (bicarb)

I have to keep the catheter in while the solution is in as removing it causing my bladder to react. So far I am only getting done at the hospital. 2 weeks ago just filling the balloon on the catheter put me in extreme pain. We stopped the instill and they gave me a shot of Toradol. 6 hours later I was back in emerg with severe pain. They did not want me on morphine again. Sent me home with Vicodin. Now I feel like "House"!

I have had a break and start the instills again on Friday. My only other choices are another Hydrodistention or going on Gabapentin at triple the dose I was on. Just hoping it works this time. :bonk:

I am so sorry you are having this much pain. I would not do any more instills if I were you. They obviously are making you worse and not agreeing with you. Maybe give the gabapentin increase a try. I hope you get to feeling better soon.

I can't use a catheter. I use a pediatric feeding tube. It is less painful. Maybe ask your doctor about using a pediatric feeding tube instead.

Hi everyone I had my 3rd instill and I was given a larger cath and that went OK however I could not empty my bladder after the 20 min. I was not able to go for about 3 hours. I was feeling very tired and sick after and I stayed home for 2 days and went to work in realy bad pain on the third day. I have not been in pain this long for the instill before. The codiene #3 did not touch the pain. I don't understand why it would be Ok one time and so awful the next. What did they say was the problem when you had to be hospitalized after the treatment. WOW...I am really sorry you had this experience.
I for one would not risk another instill of this type or any kind at all if this happened to me and I ended up in the hospital for 4 days!!! Are you sure you want to continue with these? Cuz ER and 4 days in hospital is pretty darn serious... I can't believe your dr would even consider continuing with the instills after this.
I hope you are feeling better!!((hugs)))
