hi everyone,

i have struggled with bladder pain for 2 years now. this site has helped me so much and i thank everyone for your support. i won't go too into my story. my symptoms are mostly pain and frequency. after seeing several different uros, there was a lot of speculation that i had IC, but i never got a firm diagnosis. i don't think i have IC (i dunno what i have), but i certainly identify with a lot of your stories. anyway, i was in tremendous pain last summer and desperately searching this website and i found an excerpt from a book called "A Headache in the Pelvis" by Dr. David Wise and Dr. Rodney Anderson.
while reading the post, i intuitively felt like this is what was going on for me and so i immediately ordered the book. since the day i read it and started trying some of their suggestions, i have been feeling 95% better. i went from daily intense pain to living a normal life. i still have some pain sometimes and it is certainly a gradual process, but i'm doing much much better. the book suggests that pelvic pain has a lot to do with tensing the pelvic muscles. i recommend reading their work/protocol, but i can say that just becoming aware that i've been holding tension in my pelvis (and then making an effort to relax and let it be, instead of getting all worked up about it) has made a significant difference to me. i started doing this in sept of last year and have been wanting to post a success story on this website, but also wanting to wait for a few months to see if i really was getting better. i'm also starting to get physical therapy, so i'm hoping that'll help even more. anyway, i just wanted to share how much this book and their protocol has helped me. they talk about all different kinds of pelvic pain, including IC. i am so grateful that i was introduced to this book through this website. i wish you all well and hope you are able to heal from your pain. take care.

The book will not cure you. It can be helpful, but it's not a cure. How I wish it were.

I'm not looking for that, I would like to have something to help me pee better and relax my bladder. It's so shy, I go to the bathroom anywhere in public, and it takes a really long time before I can go. Even if someone is in the next room, my bladder doesn't like it. I could care less but hey that doesn't seem to matter. I also have trouble peeing, not all of the time, but when it happens, I don't like it.

I have been wondering about that book. How much was it? I suppose I could look up the cost myself. I think I mainly have PFD, also. Maybe a little IC, but I think it is caused by the PFD because foods usually don't affect my frequency or pain. They are usually constant. But warm baths and xanax do help. Dr. Wise called me today because I submitted a request for info on his website. But their program is $4,000. That's too much for me right now. But I start PT on Tuesday, so I think it will help. I have slowly but surely been feeling better by doing two hot baths per day. I put Aveeno in my bath now so that I don't get irritated by all the baths. And I use flushable moist wipes so I don't get irritated skin down there from all the wiping from all the urinating. Anyway, I'd be very interested to hear what has helped you from that book. I also am trying to be aware of relaxing the pelvic floor as much as possible. It does help. And the squatting stretch I think helps a little.

angel451, the book doesn't mention anything specifically about a shy bladder, but i still think it's worth a read. musiclover, i also PMed you, but i have found stopping the anxiety-tension-pain cycle to be the most helpful. and donna, i don't believe the book can heal you, but i do truly believe that SOME pple can completely heal from pelvic pain by using techniques such as those suggested in this book. and at the very least, it can help a lot. there's a lot of wisdom in the book and the techniques are not doing any harm.
