Has anyone been able to take amino acids without hurting their bladder? The word "acid" scares me. Also, other than vitamin c which vitamins have hurt people. I am trying to figure out what I can take. I need something.

Hi there,

Amino acids are just the building blocks of protein. If you eat eggs, milk or meat you most likely get enough of any amino acid. :-)

It is unfortunate that the fear of acidic foods that can adversely affect an IC bladder puts the fear of ANYTHING mentioning acids into IC patients, as there is a HUGE difference. Amino acids very important building blocks for proteins in our bodies at the cellular level...some amino acids are produced by body itself but just as many others are necessary to consume thru varieties of foods as Julie menitoned. Please take a quick look at this brief but very good explanation regarding amino acids and their very great importance to a healthy body; it notes the the 10 amino acids that our bodies produce naturally, and also the 10 amino acids that we must get from foods ....both groups are important and if following a well rounded diet including foods from all of the food groups it is not hard at all to get the necessary amino acids in adequate amounts...and no they are not acidic meaning acidic like foods that will irritate a blader....the amino acids play huge part not only in maintaining the necessary bldg blocks for cellular proteins, they also play a very large role in metabolism...click on link below for more info if interested:):
