Hi,

I am 22 years old and in my final year of university. I was diagnosed with IC in April last year. I have been taking Elmiron since. I try and keep a strict IC diet, which is helping me a lot. My IC is between mild to moderate.

I think my IC symptoms might be improving, but psychologically, I am not handling my IC very well. I have gotten quite anxious about driving, traveling and lately about two upcoming presentations which I have to give in school (both about 30 minutes long). I am so worried about them, because I won't be able to leave the class room during those 30 minutes. I know that 30 minutes is not too bad, but just the thought of not having control of the situation makes me very nervous. It's very frustrating, because I am usually a very cheerful person and have no problems with public speaking in front of a crowd.

Does anyone have any suggestions how I can reduce the anxiety I am already experiencing?

Thanks.

You might jot down the times you urinate for a day or two so you will know how long you are going between bathroom trips. You may find that 30 minutes won't be a problem for you at all. Be sure to follow the diet especially carefully and you'll do great.

Warm hugs,
Donna

I teach 90 minute classes & like you, I know I can't leave. I go to the restroom at the very end of each break to make it "last longer". I wear a Poise pad, not because I'd actually be able to "go" in it, but because it eases my mind to know there won't be an "accident".

Over-prepare for your talks, the more prepared you are, the more comfortable you'll be. And if you're usually ok for 30 minutes at a time, then you're especially likely to be ok for those 30 minutes of your presentation, because if you're excited about what you're doing & talking about, you might be distracted enough to override your bladder! For me, the hardest times are the ones when I'm not doing anything (like late at night when I'm trying to sleep or when I'm watching someone else talk).

Good luck on your talks! And on finishing up school:) That's no small achievement, especially with IC~!
