Hi All,
I am relatively new to this disease, and message board. But I am hoping that you might have some infomation for me that will help me. A little back ground info :
In August I was diagnosed, in October I took a new job, mother of three, wife etc.
About 3 weeks I began having a weird sensation when i uinated so was tested and sure enough i had my first uti ever. So Tuesday was my follo up appointment and he did an internal check up
Since that appointment I have been in excruiciating pain
I went today to have a cath urine test taken so they can begin DMSO on monday
So when i told them i was in alot of pain she said to use moist heat and ibuprofen
ok that will never work
I am border line going to the hospital
any suggestion

Call your doctor am let her/him know just how much pain you are in there is NO reason for you to suffer. I just went through a week of pain and finally have it under control. Thanks to my PA.
Good luck.

I'm so sorry that your having a bad flare. I agree, you need to let your dr. know how bad you are. If he still doesn't want to do more to help you then I would go to the er if it gets to be too much. Then, if you need to, find another uro or urogynocologist that specializes in IC and make an appointment. My first urologist wasn't doing anything to help me and didn't ever even declare a diagnosis except that I was his difficult patient. I found my current dr. who was recommeded to me by the office manager at my GP dr. I had to wait 2 1/2 months to see him as a new patient but since then I call them whenever my symptoms begin to flare and they get me in right away. If my nurse gets the message that I'm really bad she calls me back immediately and gets me in to see someone within a few hours.

I have had to go to the ER when my pain was unbearable on a weekend but other than that they always find something to help me right away. The ICN has a list of dr. who specialize in IC. It is a good place to check. I was lucky in that I found my dr. name on that list after I had seen him. I will be praying that you get some relief soon. Please go to the ER if it gets too bad. They don't usually understand everything about IC but they will at least treat your pain with meds. Keep us posted.

Oh also if your having burning while you pee you can try the over the counter pyridium. There are several brands that make it such as uristat, azo standard and more. If you have some pyridium try that. My dr. doesn't like for me to take ibuprofen because it increases bleeding in the bladder. Instead you can take naproxyn products such as Alleve. Try sitting in a warm bath without products or using a heating pad. Sometimes it is helpfull just to recline and do deep breathing with the heating pad on. But there comes a time when you need more so if you reach that point do not hesitate to ask for help and go to the ER. I keep a med. journal article that I printed out on the ICN that describes the symptoms, diagnosis, and treatment basics of I.C. just in case the dr. doesn't take you seriously.

You have every right to request treatment for your pain so don't feel like you can't go for help. Hang in there! We certainly have been in your shoes as ICers so we are supporting you 100%.

Thank you very much for the support. My doctor is the only doctor in the area to specialize in IC. He has been very good about seeing me if I am in pain but he will not treat the pain i have to go to my pcp for the pain meds
I have vicodin and have been taking that but it really just isn'thelping me at all
I mean i am so uncomfortable that it hurts to pass gas. I am not sure if I am over reacting but I will definitely try to make it better if nor i will go to the ER
Thanks again,
Kirsten

Please don't rely on the ibuprophen. It is very acidic. It isn't strong enough. I use klonopin 1 mg. for bad flares.

Go to the hospital if that's what it takes to feel better or get some relief.
I hope it eases up really soon. Flares just stink...........

I'm sorry you are in a bad flare. I know it seems sometimes like it will never end, but it will. Like others have said, let your doctor know how much you hurt. Maybe there are other meds you could try. I am taking elavil now and it has helped my pain. I was taking pain meds every day, but now I am down to only a couple of times per week.

Hang in there!!
