I talked to my hemotologist today about pain meds for my endo pain. You can pretty much only take tylenol when you're on coumadin...but I have to have my protime checked every 3 days. So, he asked me what I was going to do for a long term fix. I said I really didn't have many options since hormones weren't allowed after a stroke. I did mention Lupron, but said that when I looked it up online that the information stated it was contraindicated for thrombolic events. He looked it up in his notes and said it would be ok for me...as long as I didn't do the hormone replacement therapy they normally do with it. I guess I'll be able to search for herbal menopausal relievers. :yikes:

Mimi,
Good grief we have more in common than I thought. I had severe endo--and two thromoboembolic clotting disorders(Anti-phosholipid antibody syndrome and Factor V Leiden mutation)and had a stroke myself in Sep 2002. I did the Lupron with the Coumadin and wound up having an abdominal hysterectomy. No bad effects from Lupron clot wise. Now the mood swing effects were a whole other story......:)

A word of caution. Remember that herbal remedies are still MEDICATIONS and can have interactions with prescription medications.

If you decide to try any, be very sure to clear with your doctor first.

Sending warm healing thoughts,

You could also look into foods that have the hormones. I didn't do HRT and although I had pretty bad hotflashes...compared to endo I was ok...I tollerated it.

Glad you found a possible answer.

Donna, Nothing is going into my mouth that is not cleared by my doctor FIRST! :D My PCP's nurse suggested herbal tea for my endo treatment   When I was in college, I was on Zoloft to treat my heart condition and drank a Snapple drink with St. John's wort in it...wound up in the ER. (They thought I had smoked too much pot.---except I was at a Christian college and didn't have that drugged out look OR the blood test results. We finally figured out it was the drink.) I've been super careful since. I HATE those commercials that say those things are NATURAL. ARSENIC is natural. My hemotologist said he would oversee it all for me.

Babs--I thought I was the only one with Factor V and a stroke! I'm glad I'm not alone, but I'm sorry it happened to you. I had the undiagnosed hole in my heart with the undiagnosed Factor V and was on birth control. The ER thought I was having migraines. So they sent me home to have a stroke on top of the TIA before they believed me. :headbang: I can say that IC pain is much worse than having a stroke. I have this cool little gortex coat in my heart now. I don't have to be on coumadin after May...unless I fly long distances. :D That stuff hates me.

Oh, and I've never smoked, drank, or did drugs...I have enough going on.

I'm glad you may be able to stop taking coumadin. My husband had to take it for a while after heart surgery and it was a real nuisance having to go in so often for blood testing, constantly having to change dosage, etc. I was soooo relieved when the heart surgeon said he could stop.

Warm hugs,
Donna

good luck with the lupron. i had a bad experience. my doc and i both believe it caused my IC. but then again, it's rare to have the side effects i had.

one thing that really helped me with the hot flashes and insomnia was belladonna. doc gave me a prescription instead of the herbal stuff. it worked amazingly well. i actually slept! lol
