Many of you have probably seen the google on-line ads that say
"End Interstitial Cystitis"
New breakthrough reveals The Answer
to permanent relief for IC.
www.Interstitial-Cystitis-Cured.com
If you go to the website, you're promised a miraculous cure which you can learn about if you buy their book for $37.00. Ironically, you'll find nearly identical websites that promote the same book and state that they can cure various other diseases, such as overactive bladder and restless legs.
If a cure were to be found for IC, and god knows I hope it will be found, few would charge money for that information. It will be published in medical journals around the world. It will be distributed by the many IC support groups that work with patients. Noone involved in the IC support movement would have the audacity to charge a fee to read a book that describes a cure.
Do you feel that anybody should be able to get away with claiming "cures" like this? We don't and we believe that an investigation should take place.
I hope that you will join me in filing a complaint directly with the Office of the Attorney General, Commonwealth of Massachusetts by following the link below.

The AG will not take action unless they receive multiple complaints. Please help us get a proper investigation of this website and these "authors."

This really is sad to take advantage of people desperate for relief from this illness!!!

I was a sucker when I was first diagnosed with IC and I fell for this online downloadable book. They say the secret is to delete salt and sodium from your diet. They say that that is the answer. Sure!:tsk:

I think people who prey upon people with diseases for which there isn't currently a cure are the lowest of the low!

I found a web site (not this one) where someone wrote a book that cured IC and yes I was almost going to spend the money for it but I didn't have the money so didn't. I know there is no "cure" but I guess I was sort of hoping. Makes me think about back in the cowboy days when they sold the "cure in the bottle" to sick people and all it was, was alcholol. When people are desperate they will believe anything and spend money for a chance at help and there are people out there who are willing to make money off of it. Really sad for both people I think.

Boy, a little research on these folks and it looks like they have multiple websites and an e-book to cure any number of things! Another scammer! Shame on them.
Jill, have you or anyone you know purchased their "cure" information?
Vicki
As an after-thought,..Could this sort of thing possibly fall under the FDA?

We are so vulnerable to ads like these especially at the beginning of our diagnosis as we are all so desperate for relief. Ads claiming a cure and charging people for it is a scam like any other scam that people fall for, and if they can be caught and charged then they should be.

Yes, these people should be locked up. I'll be sending a complaint. These are the worst kind of people. People that profit from the ill. I hope they get jail or prison time. Doubtful, since in America they slap you on the hand for everything. I didn't vote for President. I didn't think I was educated enough on either candidate to make the decision. I hope our new President will make some major changes in our health care system and also put a stop to crap like this.

Yes, I've talked with several patients who have purchased it. One man was so excited about the cure, he called me to tell me about it.. and I had to break it to him gently that it just wasn't supported by any credible IC research study.
Please... EVERYONE... file a complaint if you can. All we're asking for is an investigation. It's up to the state to decide if it's legal or not.

I think some consciences are ruled by capital $$$$$'s --- it infuriates me that there are people out there who prey on others.

My hubby (God love him) is an "alternative" fanatic, always with the mantra "the big drug companies suppress cheap cures because of profitability" and bought that book. There is a typo in it somewhere (forget where now) where instead of IC/OAB it says either chronic fatigue syndrome or fibromyalgia... I forget which, but it talks about another chronic illness.
FURTHER, she attributes much of her theory to another book, "The Salt Solution." I am pretty sure that she's written MULTIPLE cure books that she sells as E-books, based on what "The Salt Solution" suggests it could help, and markets all of them similarly...
It makes me absolutely LIVID!

Dear Jill,
I have seen many of these ads and am fired up and ready to file a complaint. I went to the online form but got stuck when it asked for the business name, address, and other specifics.
SO I went to the website -- www.Interstitial-Cystitis-Cured.com -- and had to do quite a bit of wading through marketing info before finding a name address, etc.
All I found was a P.O. box. Do you know if there is a physical street address?

Business or organization that is the subject of this complaint:
Business name: Turning Point OB
Address: PO Box 486, Hudson, MA 01749

Email: answerfound4oab@isp.com
Then I got stuck again. Maybe I am being too picky, but I would hate to go through this and have it disregarded because i did not fill something in correctly. It would be helpful if you could provide guidance on the rest of the form (copied here)

Thanks! - Sharon

I have had more the one newbie found this and more often the spouse or "helpful" family or friend find it trying to cram it down their throats! Then when it doesn't work the patient
is left to feel it is just them etc. I will forward this to some of those I know
taken by this directly since their complaint can me heard the loudest at least we hope!
Glad to see something can be done this one has been a thorn in my side for a long time!

Everything from job loss, dying children, foreclosures, cancer, weight gain ETC. The list is endless. Please Dear friends no matter how desperate you are there are no quick fix for anything. Research everything. Our grandparents called this snake oil. The old saying "a sucker is born every minute" These evil people believe this. Lets fight back. Ziggy

These people are slick as Oil and are good at pulling this Off.
Never fall for anything. Do indepth research on everything before you buy into it.
I recently odered a Product from an On-Line dental supply store in Michigan.
As soon as they got My Credit Card Number , they went to town with it.
The Fraud Unit for My bank called me at 8 pm at night to ask had I made all these Purchases that night. I said NO. They cancelled my card.
I had to go File Reports with the Sheriff's Dept and The FBI.
The Credit Bureau and the Better Business Bureau.
I found out the supposid owner of this company is an IRAQ'ie*
Hope the Dog had fun spending my money*
I am still fighting to get all of it back.
Being that I envolved the FBI , they are on this guy's Butt .
Never fall for anything , I did and got screwed out of $ Hundreds .
People are swines and will do anything in the name of the all mighty dollar.

I bought this book and it did absolutely nothing for my IC!! I sent a complaint by email to the Attorney General in Massachussetts... I hope more people take a stand on this because this is very cruel to commit fraud toward a person who is permanently disabled and in so much pain. IC patients suffer enough and should not be given false promises for any amount of money whatsoever. This is sick! :tsk::tsk::tsk:
I fell for that book and bought it.. Twice.. Lost it once.. The second time, (a few months ago) I was trying so hard to follow it just wanting to believe it would make me better, I lost so much weight and got so sick trying to deplete my sodium intake and it did nothing. I bought the natural products the book suggested and had irritating affects from them..
Now I feel so naive for buying it.. I'm definitely making a complaint.

I just thought you guys should see this, too:
http://www.restlesslegscured.com/product.htm
They're selling the same thing on different websites, but replacing the name of the condition in each book.
Also, I wrote everything out to file the complaint, but it says that I can't submit it without the phone number of the business.

Correction!:
You don't need the phone number if you put the name of the website in the business name slot.
I just discovered a couple other of her websites with several more disease names or conditions. Just disgusting.
