I'm a male that has IC and I'm having severe pain down low but also having severe pain up around my ribs and into the back. I didn't know if this was normal. Could someone help please. I'm on synthroid, elmiron, atarax. My dr. told me about prelief and said I could eat anything I wanted if I took it first, WRONG. If someone could let me know if they have the same symptons I would be grateful. Thanks and God Bless, Del

Del,
It could be a kidney infection. You need to talk to your doctor about it. Many ICers have low back pain. But the rib pain is not "normal" IC pain. :(

Yes, you are right. Prelief isn't a miracle supplement. It does seem to be helpful for most people, but we all have foods we can not touch no matter what we try.

Good luck and take care!!

I have had pain there before when IC was bad and I believe it is connected to being overly acidic at those times. I hope your doctor knows...mine didn't. hehe.

Anyway :welcome: :welcome: :welcome:

Hi Del:

Welcome to the boards...As far as your symptoms, you should get them checked out. I've had the same sort of pain, turned out to be like heartburnish thing, but It is best to get it checked out. Before I have a big ol flare I'll get that pain that starts under my ribs.

Best to you...

I totally agree that you need to have this new pain checked out. Unfortunately those of us with IC are not immune to other disorders.

Warm hugs,
Donna

Hi Del!!

I know that I have lower back pain and sometimes pain into my kidneys, but not my rib cage, that I know of anyway. I could and just not know it... I'm just a pain all over some days... hehe If there is anything that I can do for you, please let me know!! I'd love you help you out in any way that I can.

Del,
I am also a man with IC and I can tell you that I have pain below, in my low back, suprapubic, bladder, when I urinate, when my bladder is full, when my bladder is empty, when I am sitting, when I am standing. It is just painful. It is sometimes a throbbing pain, and sometimes it is a stabbing sharp pain.
I also have passed 12 kidney stones and had 1 surgically removed. If you think it could be a kidney stone, bladder or kidney infection, get to the doctor post-haste. In all honesty, you can hope that it is one of those instead of IC pain. Those other types can be treated and relieved, but IC pain usually cannot.
I would take a good kidney stone right about now in exchange for my IC. If you have other questions, feel free to ask. You can also private message me if it is something that you don't want to post on the boards. Have a great day.

Steve

I find myself when I my IC is flaring it sets off my irritable bowel and then I get sharp "rib pains", etc. I get many wierd pains everywhere when my bladder is bad.

but you need to find out what yours is....

Good Luck.:hi:

I agreee there. New pain needs to be checked out. (For me I'd be going everyday so I just have a standing appt. with my GP every month...:D ) I can go over all my owies and let him decide what is important...(I also report these symptoms to my uro and pain doc...they all usually wind up agreeing with GP)
