I had high hopes for Dex. I thought this drug would be a miracle for me but it did not work out! I am so disappointed! It took away 100% of my pain but it made my heart race so fast that I thought I was having a heart attack. It was so bad I thought I was going to die. My PM Dr said to lower the dose and it still made my heart race and at the lower dose it did not work for the pain. Not sure if my overtreated thyroid is the reason for the racing heart or if it was the Dex.It was probably a combination of both. My thyroid meds were just lowered because my PCP thought that it could be the reason why I was feeling that way. I wore a halter monitor one day and it showed episodes of SVT. And that was after I D/C the dex. So i guess I cannot take this medication. I wish there was something else similar that does not speed the heart like the Dexadrine. Anyone else have this reaction to this med?

your episodes of SVT does your thyroid md think it could be your thyroid causing that? Thyroid levels if out of range can cause heart rate to go into rhtymns like svt or others. VN

I have an endocrinologist friend that wants me to take dexedrine because he has had success with it for ideopathic edema & found out it helps with IC. He wanted me to take 10 mgs. in the am & 10mgs. at lunch. He hasn't had any patients w/ irregular heartbeats. I haven't tried this yet, because my IC dr. has me trying different meds right now. He treats alot of thyroid pt's too. Who prescribed the dex. & how long does it take to get the thyroid straightened out when the meds are changed?

Hi,

I have been taking it for over a year and have had great success. I take 5mg twice a day. The dose you started just may be too much for you.

Hope you find something that works..

Hi,

I cannot say that Dex has been 100% successful for me, but it has certainly given me back some energy, and it has been 100% successful in eliminating urgency---unless I just am busy and want to "put off" going, and the frequency is G-O-N-E.

I have no nocturia, but I am too thin and trying desperately to put on some weight---which may sound like great fun, but it isn't. I also take a very low dose - 10-15--sometimes 20 mg./day of Dex.

Losing so much weight has put me into a size 2 or 3 and I look best as a size 4 weighing 118-125. I now weigh 113 and my face is too thin, I have no nice curvy "junk in the trunk" and it's cost me a couple of hundred to replace my clothes. They were literally almost falling off -- I had mostly size 6 and then 4....then I had to get the 2's and 3's.

What I still have is the burning and I intend to get some Slippery Elm tomorrow and maybe Cantharis also. I am a braticus re the diet. I did it religiously for 2 1/2 years and I thought it was pure hell. I do limit some things, but not as much as I probably should. I had a 3-4 year period of time where I could eat and drink whatever I wanted....to go back to "the white diet from hell" is more than I can handle, especially with the weight loss. Sigh..... But, things are better over all. J

I have been on dex XR 20mg per day. I tried the 10mg at morning and at lunch. However, it made me jittery and I was all over the place. The XR releases as your body needs it. However, it has worked great. No jitters or bouncing off the walls. I was sleeping all the time. Since being on dex I get out play with the kids. Even planted the first garden in years. I love it. I do not have to stick to the diet. However, I am careful not to over do it. I suggest everyone try it at least. I have not had the weight loss that I was hoping for but, glad there is no more pain!!!!
