ok, have no idea if I'm spelling Hys right lol.
since I started estrogen replacement therapy - vivelle dot and vagifem (every day) my IC has improved dramatically. However, with or without symptoms I still take 2 utira-c tablets every morning after breakfast. My symptoms are subtle enough now that I can tell my triggers - ie caffeine to an extent and citrus is a big no-no. Grilled hamburgers can be a problem - probably to do with the hickory smoked stuff. I avoid vitamin C, B6? and magnesium bothers me too. I pretty much avoid all vitamins - taking only omega3 fish oils and nu-iron for low ferritin.
anyway, I would like to try just an antispasmodic for my slight pain/frequency instead of the utira-c every day. It's expensive and since I NEVER get infections I don't like putting anti-infective agents and dyes in my body if I don't need them. But, if it's the only thing that works I'll certainly keep using it. That stuff changed my life!
Would the antispasmodic help with the frequency? It's cheaper, right? The Utira-c is 140+ for 180 tablets - so about 50 a month for me. Mostly, I just worry about taking extra chemicals if they're not needed. And I hate having blue toilets all the time lol
I'm also going to try some topical elavil for my vestibulitis. I'm very excited about that.
Guys, I sat thru a 4 hour movie. Can you believe it???

I take hyoscyamine when I am having frequency. It's very inexpensive and works well for me.

Have you tried ditropan xl? I had very good results with that. I also use the utira-c every day - usually just one in the morning, sometimes I might need a second one at night if I'm having extra frequency. There is a generic for ditropan xl so it might be cheaper. You can ask your doctor about it. If you are having just slight frequency and urgency maybe you can get away with overactive bladder meds. My urgency gets very strong if I don't keep on medication. Hate to do it, but really don't have any other choice. As for the blue toilets - I buy the blue drop in tablets that keeps the water blue! I have been using utira-c over 2 years now and couldn't get that blue stain out of my toilet no matter how hard I scrubbed! So I gave in and keep the water a blue color so no one can tell!! Sorry, it's the only warped sense of humor I have about IC!!

Is this med for help with IBS-C or IBS-D? One or the other or both?
thx

Hi all. I spoke with my doc today. She's going to prescribe both - the utira-c and the hycscyamine so I can try both. She is also prescribing a compounded topical elavil. We discussed my testosterone supplement - since I think it's making my acne a little worse and maybe contributing to hair loss we're going to cut back to twice a week rather than every day.
I've had some ibs symptoms that have recently improved. I attributed it to the estrogen but maybe it's also due to the morning utira. hmm..
Good idea about the blue toilets except I have a cat that thinks she's a dog...you get the idea. :loco:
wow. 2 days without the utira and even tho I was taking a small dose I can really feel it. I'm not hurting "yet" but yeah, frequency to an annoying degree.

It never occurred to me that some of the elements in the UTAs could be taken on their own. Yarnia, I'll be really interested to hear how it works for you to take just the Hyoscyamine and not the Utira-c. I'm not prone to UTIs either, so I wonder if I need everything that's in Urelle, which is what I use. My co-pay for non-generics is a bargain compared to some of the prices I've heard here, but I would certainly like to pay less. And that blue thing is getting tiresome. Next time I see my uro I'll ask him what he thinks. Keep in touch!

yes, well there are other ingredients in urelle and utira-c including a bladder analgesic. I guess that will be the test - whether the anti-spasmodic will do the trick without the analgesic. I will report back in a few days :)
I have no copays - just a huge huge deductible so pretty much I pay cash for everything. fun.

Yeah, I am trying to get an Rx for the hyoscyamine (sp??? lol) for the same reasons as Yarnia...as my main problem lately has been bladder spasms and burning... once my bladder starts spasming then burning/urgency starts and then the Vulvodynia starts acting up. So I'm wondering if I can get the spasms under control as soon as they start with just the hyoscyamine and see if that keeps things from going to burning, urgency, and vulvodynia symptoms. Would be nice not to pee orange from pyridium for a change but I won't know how this hyoscyamine works til I try it!
Yeah, I gotta flush twice not only to prevent staining the bowl but also b/c my cat thinks she's a dog, :toilet:too...I don't think those toilet bowl cleaners come in orange lol but I try to remember to put the lid down just in case there is any residual pyridium in the water...and I haven't noticed cat peeing orange:bonk:

lol. I hope not! My cat (kitten really) likes to go "fishing" in the toilet so lately we've had to be sure and close the lid. Even a kleenex tossed in will be fished out and deposited on the hallway floor ick!
sounds like we have similar symptoms. Same here - can say that since I got the hormones/ic under control I rarely experience any sort of external irritation or inflammation. I still have some recurring pelvic pain - very mild - that I guess is vulvodynia/vestibulitis connected, or so my doc tells me.
Pyridium makes me a crazy lady. We don't go there lol

well. My doc prescribed sublingual hyoscyamine tablets. 2 tab 4 times a day. They gave me hyomax-SL 0.125 mg which is the generic for levsin.
It's not cheaper at all. Maybe that's because it's sublingual? I can see the benefits of that and I swear I could feel it working within an hour. It's too soon to know how much I would really need to take esp since I've been without my meds for 3 days.
