Hi everyone, i am hoping someone can help me w/ this. I usually pee 3-5 times a night, but then eventually i just sleep through the urge to urinate. then when i wake up for the day i am in a flare and i think its because there is urine sitting in my bladder for a few hours. does anyone else have this issue or any ways to avoid it. i thought about waking up and taking pain meds 2 hours before i have to wake up for the day, but i have a hard time falling back to sleep, which is also an issue when i wake up to pee several times a night. so i wouldnt want to lose anymore sleep, i am so tired as it is. if anyone else has this issue and has ideas to prevent it, please let me know. Thanks!

I started sleeping better after starting hydroxyzine at bedtime, w/ valium suppositories also at bedtime (for my vv). I'm up 1-2 times now. You probably already do this, but is your dinner IC friendly? Would a hot bath before bed help? I've been there, crying because you are so tired & have to get up as soon as you lay back down. Maybe your doctor could tweak your meds. I really hope you get some relief, Karen

I'm the opposite.I wake up fine and in the late afternoon and evening it goes down hill. I take Ambien now so I can fall back to sleep after getting up to pee. The good part is things got better and I am down to getting up 2 to 3 times a night from 6 or 7 times a night. I keep a food journal so I can spot trends and I'm pretty strict with my IC diet although lately i have been slowly adding some foods back in. If I am experimenting I do it at lunchtime so I can remedy the situation before I go to bed. If something bothers me I immediately drink a glass of baking soda water and take a Piridium. That ususally takes care of a minor flare.

i stick to the diet as well, but i am thinking maybe i should do the water and baking soda before bed to see if that helps any, of course i will pee more, but maybe i will not wake up in a flare. guess its worth a shot right? my dr thought about the valium suppositories but they are too expensive for me right now. i have tried the hydroxyzine, but i end up in a fog all day. i take a 1/2 of valium and it helps a little bit, otherwise i think i'd wake up more. thanks for the replies.

Hi Jenn,
I take a truckload of medicines at bedtime & do an instillation, so that helps many nights. But, there are some days when I wake up not feeling well & I don't really have a reason why. On those days, I usually do another instillation in the morning. (I do the instillation, drive to work, void the solution when I get there). Most of the time that works & I can make it through the day.

I have found lately that I do sleep a bit better when I sleep on my side with a pillow between my knees. Don't know what that does for me (besides discouraging the :cat: from climbing on my stomach), but it does help also.

Hope you find relief soon,

Sounds like you might need a strong anti-spasmodic to help with the urgency/frequency issue. I would ask your doctor or urelle or prosed. I take the generic of urelle called utria-c. There is also ditropan xl that might help, especially taken an hour or so before bed. I hope this helps.

just remember that if you are prone to retention probelms some meds like ditropan can cause retention. i am not a medical authority, so therefore please consult with your physician about the risk of retention .
I was placed on ditropan a years back and went into the worst retention pain i had ever experienced. but that is me, and all of us are different and react differently to meds.
it may very well work wonders for some .. just a caution from my experience. it might help some very much.... worth a try but please keep in mind the retention ...
as always,, consult your doc.

I too have that issue of being in pain in the morning when I wake, I wake up 3-4 times a night and still wake up in pain and feeling like I haven't peed in like 12 hours. I take alot of meds at night to help me sleep but still wake up alot and am in alot of pain. I never feel like I rested. I have tred a few thing with much help but there are still things to try so I don't give up hope.

i saw my dr today and she said to try cystex which should make my urine less acidic, kind of like water and baking soda. she doesnt want me drinking the water and baking soda because then i will have to pee that much more. we are working w/ my insurance company to let me do the instills myself at home. she said once i can then i should feel better.

i hope the self instills work for you..
i am one of those rare really severe cases of ic so i have tried just about everything
i still don't give up hope even after having this for years on end~~
I would have to say that having HOPE is extremely important for any stage of IC treatment!
Best of Luck
