Hi,
I've recently been diagnosed with IC. After reading about other people's symptoms, I consider myself very lucky that I don't suffer the extreme pain that lots of you unfortunately do. However, my urgency and frequency are out of control and I have a constant sensation to go to the bathroom and even after i do go.
The sensation just doesn't go away. i'm sure I have retention and
i obviously have a small blatter but does anyone share this CONSTANT feeling of having to go? it is making me miserable and I have no life. I have found absolutely no relief. I eat a very bland diet and have been on elmiron for 4 months. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you,
Jamie

Hello and welcome to the icn board I thought i had already read this post and posted but i must have been wrong sorry or someone else had the same question LOL.:bonk: :hmm: I take klonopins 1 mg to help relax my bladder i also take heparin and marcaine dmso treatments at home i also think that helps me from feeling like i have to go so much. I however do have a large bladder but when i'm flareing it doesn't feel that way:yikes: maybe you can asked your doctor for a low dose of a nerve medicine that seems to help alot of people when there bladder's feel that way.
sending you hugs and prayers

Those were my exact symptoms in the beginning - no pain, just major discomfort. The right combination of meds has kept those feelings away for the most part. Elmiron has been one of those meds for me, but it can take some time to work. :)

Yep, that's what I feel like now... The diet helps a lot, wearing loose clothing (loose dresses or baggy sweats) helps too. Haven't found my magic combination of things yet, but am still trying things ... Seems to take most people awhile of trial & error to find what works for them from what I've seen & heard on these boards & from my doctors. Keep trying out things & good luck:)

Hi,
I do share you feeling. I feel that my life revolves around a washroom. When I go out for a ski- doo ride the washroom is always at the front of my mind. I have had to get used to using Nature's washroom. I feel that using the washroomdoesn't provide much relief. I have a lot of discomfort in my lower stomach area afterward. I often find myself asking others around me if I was just in the washroom...I am unable to tell a lot of the time. I am currently trying Elmiron, this is month 5 so I am hoping to find relief with it.
 I'm hoping Elmiron is the solution

What information can you tell me about the drug Flomax? I've never heard of it. Is it like a pain killer? Does it be taken with Elmiron? Or does it replace that drug? I really find my life is reloving around the washroom.

no flomax is not a painkiller...i think its an antispasmodic...its mostly prescibed to men for prostate problems and women as well.
not sure if it can be taken with elmiron
here is more information on flomax

Hmm... another one to ask my doctor about... Ditropan and Detrol seem to be useless.

Anyone try "retraining" their bladder? I've read a lot about it but I don't think I could... the constant need is horrible..

I seem to be going about 2/3 - 1 cup for a "good void" (just waking up and such) Does that seem to be too little?

I'm tired, excuse the odd questions

P.S. My initial symptoms where frequency and minor burning. Then in come the minor cramps, hematuria... Now the pain is increasing daily and driving me :loco: Grrr where does it end?

When I get that constant urgency feeling, I take a smooth muscle antispasmodic. The one I take is hyoscyamine --- I don't have insurance that covers medications and it is very inexpensive, which is a big plus for me.

In the beginning, my only symptoms were frequency, and urgency. Then, I didn't know why. It was recently, the pain began. I also, feel lucky that my symptoms aren't as sever as others.
