I've been on Elmiron, Elavil & Zoloft for almost a year and a half. I've noticed significant weight gain and I'm depressed about this. Has anyone noticed weight gain with their meds and what do you do about it other than the normal? I know I haven't been eating anymore than I did before being dx and my daily activities are the same, so what to do, what to do? I know I can not go off my meds and not have my IC symptoms return, so I may be destined to be fat the rest of my life.

Hello Agape,
I gained 45 pounds since I got IC. I've lost 20 of those pounds, but am having difficulty losing the rest.

For me, I've definitely got more of an appetite than I did before & I'm not doing the same amount or quality of exercise I did prior to IC.

I've also noticed that since I can't drink diet sodas, coffee, or tea & can't eat most fruits, I'm eating higher calorie foods in general. While the quantity of food on my plate looks the same, the foods are more calorie-dense.

You might try keeping a food diary & maybe checking your calorie intake to see if that could be it. (www.sparkpeople.com It's a free website that has a nutrition tracker that will calculate your calories for you.)

Hang in there. While I've been upset about my weight gain, my IC is moderate-severe & I've had to decide to just do my best to live well each day & to not stress over my weight...
