In my particular case, I think hormonal change was the cause. I had only one previous bladder infection and had had no pelvic surgeries. I was in perfect health. I got IC in 1992 when I was 38 and going into my peri menopausal stage. This is all I can come up with.

I developed the start of my IC after a bladder infection. I would have urethal burning if I had to much acid, or I was stressed. Then around 38 with hormonal changes, I developed full blown IC.

I know hormones contribute in some way....I probably fit all theories in some way. I know there is a connection between hormones and immune system that is hard to understand....I know that the both together are probably my cause. First symptoms when atolecence would first be beginning...

Hmm, I got sick with IC about 2 months after I stopped a birth control pill I'd been on for 10 years, so have wondered about hormone connection. But also have many relatives with thyroid disorders, have also had panic attacks since I was 10 and have lots of allergies. So I fit a lot of theories...

I think I would probably have developed IC anyway, but the trauma of an abdominal hysterectomy brought on my IC symptoms very quickly. I fall within the group with possible traumatic cause.

I never took birth control prior to IC. I had vague and infrequent symptoms for years but didn't get full blown IC until after a series of positive bladder infections and two kidney infections. I am actually now taking birth control pills to help my IC flares from ovulation to menstruation. :D And now since I don't ovulate, I only have high pain at menstuation!! Hormones have been a blessing in my case!!

:bonk: I can't wait to know what connects all these therories together...it sure is confusing!!!

I mentioned above about my IC becoming much worse around 38 when my hormones changed. The doctor put me on birth control pills to try to regulate my hormones. My cycle was all messed up. I was terrified the pills would make my IC worse, I was in enough pain as it was, but they actually seemed to ease my symptoms. My problems didn't go away, but it seemed to take the edge off.

I don't care how much bad press hormone replacement or the pill gets, they will have to pry my pills from my hand, and I pity the fool who tries to do it!:D

My ic and where it came from.....................i am still working on that one. I started having bladder tenderness after a very tramatic delivery of my daughter two years ago. Then I started having flares last december and got offically diag in march. So i think i fit under the trama catagory. So i guess yours is as good as mine. Becky S

I know for a fact that hormones play a part in my IC. I had no symtoms at all during pregnancies.

A few months ago I started using progesterone cream since my periods are so irregular now and it made me feel worse. My theory is that it's like having PMS all MONTH which is when my flares are the worst.

I got my IC after getting a bad bladder infection when travelling in a foreign country. I was given the wrong pills three times before they finally put me on ones that would have cleared up a normal infection...but this time I think that the damage has been done and I had IC because those bladder infection symptoms just never went away even though the bacteria in my urine did. I guess that means I would fit in the trauma category as well. :(

I don't know what caused my symptoms, or when it began. It seems like it was just frequency at first. I mentioned it to my gyno, and he prescribed Imipramine, I had some relief for awhile. I've also suffered from Irritable Bowel, and muscle pain. At some point my symptoms just became so bad, I had to see the Uro. In the last 3 yrs. I've had a hysterectomy, hernia repair, tumor removed from my bladder, and my gall bladder removed.

I just don't know what's next!
