Law and Order is a fictional show that is on Sunday night. My aunt informed me that on the show they were investigating the drowning death of a women found in a pool and that there were three drugs in her system, one of which was elmiron. When one of the detectives asked what that was the doctor explained that it was used for IC. I thought it was interesting that IC was even mentioned. Perhaps someone who works for the show knows about it. I thought it was interesting to bring it to the open in a weekly series such as this.

Don't be too excited. You must have missed the other posts. One of the characters explained that it was for "bladder infections". Totally minimizing our horrible disease!!! I just wish they would have correctly explained IC. That would have been something wonderful......:headbang:

I saw the same show and wondered why they even mentioned it if they were not going to explain it or do something with it. They had just enough information to sound ignorant of IC. I also thought someone in the cast, writers or someone they know must have IC, in order to make the connection between "DMSO and Interstitial Cystitis." Oh Well...they blew it.

But, at least "Interstitial Cystitis" was said out loud on national TV. :hmm: I wonder if people wondered what it was?

I noticed that on that episode DMSO was described as a solvent. I was in terrible agony when I tried DMSO years ago. How can a solvent be a treatment for IC?

You are right Audrey if they totally minimized it. But how could they mention elmiron and then call it a bladder infection. Another screw up about IC right. thanks for your answer.

You would be surprised how many MD's I have met over the years think that IC is a bladder infection. Interestingly enough, I have never had a UTI in my life, and I'm not prone to infections there. But in the beginning they used to first give me antibiotics "just in case" Sometimes these meds caused flares from the ingredients.

I agree, we need to scream louder or something to be heard..or one of us has to get rich and famous LOL (like they did with AIDS) so someone in a Pharmac. Co. decides we are worth investing in for a cure.

Many MD's can't even say Interstitial Cystitis...One MD asked me "It's that disease where you pee a lot, isn't it"...I fired him on the spot, and walked out.
Another called it "a new fangled illness".and he told me "he didn't believe in it???? Imagine??
.Naturaly I left his office too. I hope you feel better soon, and I hope someday we are important enough to find a cure for. I still think on some days the screaming idea is a good one LOL But, we have to scream together!!

Has anyone heard back from Law&Order? I wrote them & suggested that even if they can't retract the info from that episode, it should not be re-aired for further repitition of their mistake. (Rerun season is coming up, also several other stations are rerunning episodes - syndication?)

They did not answer me. Anyone gotten a response?
