I posted this somewhere and cant find it so if its readt twice I aplogize.
I have IC and had my 1st Bladder Instill Last Friday. It was sodium BiCarb, Lidocaine and Heprin. Im also on Emirol. (Sorry if anything is spelt wrong, I dont have my prescription near me..but Im sure you all get what I mean)
Anyhow....I didnt feel the relief I had HOPED and PRAYED for. And now, days later I find along with my normal cramps and pressure every time I urinate it burns. Is this common after a Instil .. even days ago? OR is it something more with the IC to flare it more. I never go painfree but I usually get burning when I urinate maybe once a week..now I have it all day when I urinate and also when I am not. I was hoping for some advise ....
Thanks in advance.

Hi Christine,
I've never had the Sodium Bicarb, lidocaine, & heparin instill, so I don't know what they are like. I HAVE, however, had a series of DMSO instills (my 5th one is tomorrow)... and I can tell you that after my first one, I was in a lot of pain, and the burning was terrible for several days. I was ready to kill my urologist :)
But, he promised it would get better with subsequent instills... and it has. It is still painful, but the pain is not quite as intense, and it only lasts a few hours now, instead of several days.
This may be the case with you... I would try a few more instills to see what happens, and if it is still unbearable after one or two more, you can always speak to your doctor about it. They can do a different type of instill, or you can quit them all together and work out a different type of treatment plan. There are lots of options out there...
I hope it gets better!!

Usually urine burn is something ingested, hence, usually once a week. By keeping a food journal you may be able to track down what's causing it. As far as the instill goes, I had heparin treatments & never got the burning. Did they give you an antibiotic to take after the instill? Sometimes with an instill you can get an infection. I would drop off a urine sample to the doc & see if you have one. Please ask for an antibiotic after an instill, only like 2 tablets, it really helps not getting an infection.
Hugs, Kathi:thumbsup:

Hi,
I have had that instillation and did not have any relief either. I am in pain all the time also as you are. After the instillation I was more irritated than before and I did ask the doctor and he said that it was normal he was sorry to have to say that but true.
But just in case maybe check with your doc. I have also had the DMSO as the others and that was painful also but no relief it does not work for everyone. But there something that works so keep trying if you can. And the food journal may be a big help.
good luck

Burning when you urinate is a sign of an infection. Call your doctors office and let them know. That small amount of Macrobid might not have been enough.

Hey hon
sorry you are feeling so rough i know how you feel:( i cath my self almost daily i use the heparin and marcaine for my treatment I was told even when they did this in the doctor office everytime i was cath caused a high risk for infection when i done it in the office they would give me a leviquin to take when i got home they no i can't take no food on a empty tummy I do believe you should go back to the doctor and let him do a urine on you and send it off. that would be the safest thing to do. i have those urine strips at home and i would think to my self okay this says i don't have an infection yet i really feel like i do but since i get chornic utis should i go get checked:confused: I would sit here and wait for a few days just to keep checking to see still no infection. I go to the uro they send my urine off BINGO. That ia what was wrong with me a nasty uti but mine for some reason want show up on those strips and for some reason nine out of ten times mine has to be sent off unless they are just rip roaring enough that makes me feeel like i'm going to pass out.:bonk: So please go back to the doctor and get checked for an infection that could be what the problem is and a little bit of anti would help you feel much much better
sending you hugs and prayers.
