Approval for handicap parking...

Does anyone have a handicap parking permit? I was just curious. Going shopping was s HUGE problem for me over the holidays and now that they're over I want to take action. Once I drove over to the mall (15+ min) parked in the back of the parking lot and found the bathroom in the mall it was too late! I had held it too long and I would flare for a week from not making it to the bathroom in time. It was ridiculous. I also have the problem everday of picking up my three year old from school. Unless I get there 15 minutes early all the parking spaces near the school are gone so I have to park in the back parking lot and walk. Again some days its just too long. I live 20 minutes from the school and then the park and walk is a total of a half hour. When I'm bad thats WAY too long.
I just wanted to know if anyone already had approval and if its difficult to get. I certainly don't want to take a space from someone else that needs it more than I do. I'll only use it when I have to. Some days I'm fine and I can make it and others there is NO WAY.

I know of several ICers who have permits. Ask your doctor if he/she will sign for you so you can get one.

I have gotten handicapped permits a couple of times when I visited Disney World and when I was in graduate school. Actually, the reason I got it when I was in school was because of hip pain and it was winter semester. I couldn't walk 100 feet, let alone in icy, snowy parking lots! :-)

My doctor will write for them a month or two at a time. That may be an option for you when it comes to shopping for Christmas!

Yes, I do. I have IC and Fibro but since I moved states (and you get to do the form again when you move lines across state) I had my uro write out permission this time since I was seeing him first. He had no problem with it and said it made sense to him since sometimes I get fibro pain and sometimes I just need to get to that bathroom right now.

I only use it when I need it. I do get the occasional funny look though since I am 34 and look healthy. Wouldn't that be nice.

I have an handicap plague. My doc. keep giving me temporary but finally he gave me a permenant plague. I try to use it only when I don't feel good. If there is a reg. spot next to handicapped I use it.

I have one-my pain management doctor gave the ok for it. All you have to do is have him/her fill out a form from the DMV or even write on a prescription pad that you need one. I have it not really for my IC but my other chronic health issues. I don't use it all the time only when I really need to.
