Have you been checked for yeast infection? If not, it is probably not wise to use the monistat, in more ways than one!
Monistat has a pretty bad rep around here for causing ANY vaginal burning, regardless the cause, to go from bad to over the top screaming for help burning. Could very well put you in a very very bad flare. Also it is not recommended to use any OTC yeast cream without first being tested at the dr for yeast infection.
I right now am not experiencing any vaginal burning, but I guarantee you if I put some monistat in or on me, I would be putting myself into a flare in no time.
For IC and particulary Vulvodynia patients, monistat does not seem to be well tolerated. Yes there are some that can tolerate it for treating yeast infections, but for many it is considered the white:evilsmile: in a tube.
Please, before attempting to use this product, if you suspect you have a yeast infection, please see the dr b/c there are other options for yeast infections, oral Diflucan being one.
Any cream or ointment bought over the counter or even when prescribed by a dr, should be tried carefully by doing a small test spot on the affected area first to see how you react. Sometimes it is best to wait a day after doing the test spot b/c what doesn't seem to hurt you now could very well hurt you later after some time has passed.
Many of use lidocaine gel for vaginal burning. It seems to be well tolerated by most. It does require a prescription. If you do not have or do not suspect or do not know if you have a yeast infection, it is unwise to treat yourself with with any over the counter yeast cream.
Hope you feel better soon. Have you tried cold packs or a cold can of soda between the legs? That is one thing that gives me some really good relief for vaginal burning without any side effects.
Take care and I hope you feel better soon!

The homeopathic remedy, cantharsis, is fantastic for burning.
Also, for burning while urinating, use a "pour bottle" and pour warm water over your genital area while you are urinating. Its very soothing.
