So this morning I woke up with back pain again. So I thought no problem I can tough it out. took my toradol. 4 hour later back again worse, sharp stabby. Took some more. 3 hours later, same store. By 7 pm so not coping. Little trip to the hospital. Lovely little 8 hour wait later. I get the ER Dr who is a little dense. I tell him my back feels like its being stabbed with an ice pick. He says "describe the pain for me" and a nurse who wants me to take all tomorrows meds tonight because I have to have an empty stomach for tomorrows CT even though the instructions say I can take my regular pills with a small amount of water. Go figure. Oh and the pain pills aren't working. Well they are because I'm babble typing but I'm still in pain like I never took them. Any way. I knew you all would understand.

Sorry for your problems and that EXCEPTIONALLY long wait in the ER..:grouphug::loco: I have had to go to ER a couple of times for IC/retention issues and I was in and out within 2hrs. The times I went were not holidays or at night, so maybe that is why I got prompt and adequate treatment. I gotta say that while the area where I live is not tops on the list for great med services, my ER experiences have been exceptional...and way more than I was expecting.
It is not uncommon to have a CT Scan to rule out other things even more serious than IC while in the dx process. Also, lower back crampy stabbing back pain is pretty common symptom that often accompanies IC. If my bladder hurts and/or burns, then most times my back hurts, too. Bladder referred pain is what it is called.
When I had my CT Scan during dx process I was told not to eat anything after midnite or the morning b/f the CT Scan; Well, duh, in the morning I completely forgot and ate half a biscuit before remembering that I was not to eat anything....I ran to the RR immediately after I swallowed that half a biscuit, so scared that it would give inaccurate results with the scan...stuck my finger down my throat trying to throw it up and out:loco: but was not successful:bonk: Anyway, when I picked up the scans to show them to my uro you could very clearly see that biscuit in my GI tract :biglaugh: However, my uro said that did not skew the results of the scan.
Take care and hope you feel better soon!

So I went back first thing in the A.M. for my CT and they saw me pretty quick. The Dr said I had several small stones. Then we had the usual argument about whether I was in pain or not. Seriously. Would I be there complaining of stabbing back pain if I wasn't? His argument was that they weren't blocking anything and they werent' that big so how could they be causing me that much pain. My arguement was they were much bigger than they were 3 months ago, have been in my back for at least 6 months from the last 2 scans, and wouldn't that alone lead to irritation and increased sensitivity? He couldn't argue with that. So he told me to keep taking my ketoralac for pain and started me on Flomax (has any one had this ???) to flush them out of my system (God lets hope its quick) and come back if it gets worse. So I'm going to work today, pain or no pain. Let me know when our new bodies arrive. How long have they been on back order now??

This sucks big time, everyones pain tolerance is different, I am not saying you are a wimp or anything like that, it is just a fact we all expirence things differently.

Kidney stones are painful no matter how big or small or where they are at etc., but sometimes people get them and they hardly miss a beat, others get them and they are down for the count, so I don't know how he can say they are not or shouldn't be painful. Even if he has had them he probably dosen't have IC and all the rest of the things we have on top of it.

Thanks for the support Mothergoose, this afternoon I was back in the clinic because the Flomax was giving me rapid heartbeat and chestpains. And the clinic Dr was all 'are you sure its not a panic attack?' I know what a panic attack is. I really was so not panicked. Just seriously ANNOYED. Which I'm sure we've all been at one point or another with this disease. Just when we think we're going some where something just drags us back again. His comment so did not help. What do they think we do come and harrass them because we have nothing better to do with our time?? Once he assured me my heart would not up and quit on me and all I need to do is quit the flomax it wasn't so bad but still, my heart is beating a mile a minute which is quite disturbing, no matter what he says.
