I talked to Dr Conway in NH yesterday on the phone about my symptoms and he seem to think i have a mild case of PN. Mine all started after i was having instills that was killing my bladder for some reason. I am seeing a PFT and she is working with me but im having these sexual arousal feeling that are driving me crazy. They come and go. Today was the first day i felt better and decided to take a drive to the store and OMG while in the store my Clitoris was like burning and i thought i was going to scream. I started Lyrica 75 mg Monday but they second day it hyped me up so bad it made my bladder hurt so i started today with 25 mgs a day until my body gets use to it. Hoping it dosent hurt my bladder. CAN anyone tell me what to do about this arousal feeling? I hurried home and got in tub and now sitting on ice. It seems like its getting worse and of course its messing with my mind. I tried Elivil but it made me more depressed. Please someone help me if you know and have had this feeling.
Thanks
Tonya

Are you taking any kind of allergy or cold med or anithistamine....sometimes those can cause the effect you are describing.

I was going to say ice. Lyrica has all but stopped it for me. I am up to 200mg 3x a day with no side effects at all. I did start slow though....it took months to get up this high. I really hope it helps you as much as it's helped me. I know how this feels...I didn't have it constantly but it would come and go on occasion. It's a HORRIBLE feeling and the thing that bugs me the most is when people think it's a good thing to have. It's FAR from a good feeling. It can literally drive you crazy. Anyway, just wanted you to know I totally understand where you are right now and I'm so sorry!! Keep on with the lyrica, it has helped my IC too! Good luck.

I wonder if a higher dosage of the Valium Family of Meds could possibly stop this from happening. Could you call Dr. Conway back and ask him about this?
You may want to look up Female Sexual Arousal Disorder.
Or I found this information: "Persistent Sexual Arousal Syndrome results in a spontaneous and persistent genital arousal, with or without orgasm or genital engorgement, unrelated to any feelings of sexual desire. It was first documented by Dr. Sandra Leiblum in 2001, only recently characterized as a distinct syndrome in medical literature. In particular, it is not related to hypersexuality, sometimes known as nymphomania or satyriasis. In addition to being very rare the condition is also frequently unreported by sufferers who may consider it shameful or embarrassing.
Physical arousal caused by this syndrome can be very intense and persist for extended periods, days or weeks at a time. Orgasm can sometimes provide temporary relief, but within hours the symptoms return. The symptoms can be debilitating, preventing concentration on mundane tasks. Some situations, such as riding in an automobile or train, vibrations from mobile phones, and even going to the toilet can aggravate the syndrome unbearably."
PN or PNE can also cause these feelings...............I know Dr. Conway very well. I know that you have to go on in for an emg to be tested for confirmation. Are you near NH?
I'm going in May to have my Pudendal Nerve Decompressed by Dr.C and his team.
Maybe there are some support groups online for women who go through this. I would also ask Dr. Conway that question.
Just remember, this isn't your fault and I can hear your frustration over not knowing how to handle this. Dr. Conway can lead you in the right direction if no one else can. But he has to see you first.

I had that arousal feeling like 2-3 times a week and it drove me crazy. I felt like I was on the verge of an orgasm! For me it was all the nerve damage and inflammation from IC, PFD and vestibulitis. I was put on a mild dose of prednisone, followed by PT for the PFD and estrace for the vestibulitis. The feeling was gone almost immediately after beginning these things. Hope this helps.

It could also have something to do with a hormone imbalance so you may want them to check your blood to see where you stand with hormones and balance. I know that for myself the 2nd half of every month, I get persistant arousal that I have to actually take pain medication as well as Lyrica. It's nerve damage and hormones put together that makes for a bad day..........
There's not much in my situation that can be done so I just go hour by hour and see how it goes. I wish I had more to offer other than a phone call back to Dr. C and the hormone check.
I am also interested in the blood flow issue. I wonder what Dr. C would say about that. I may have to call myself.......

I can relate to what you are feeling. My symptoms alternate between arousal feelings, a throbbing which feels like it is in my urethra, but the dr. said it comes from my bladder neck and the urgency and frequency thing. I went to Dr. Moldwin, and he says it is either a nerve or pelvic floor disorder or a little Interstitial Cystitis. At this point NOTHING is working, and I am becoming very very depressed. I asked for Lyrica, and they wouldn't give it to me. I am on Elavil which doesn't work, Valium which used to work and stopped and Percoset which I am needing more and more for relief. Today I took the potassium sensitivity test, and I wasn't sensitive to the potassium or the relief. I have an appt. with a urogynecologist on March 26th to check for a prolapse. I am literally miserable. PT made it worse. A routine gynecology exam and pap test brought on an awful flare. I totally empathize with all of you. Krisssy

Hi Krissy
I was wondering if you found any relief from the arousal feeling? Im taking gabapentin and elavil and lexapro. It has helped and im still in PT. I cant believe your doctor wont put you on lyrica or gabapentin. I think my doc is going to change me over to lyrica. He says its better. I live in georgia. Not sure where you are. Let me know how your doing.
Take care and if you need to talk im here :). I tried to pm you but your mailbox is full.

I have had this for 10+ years and have gone mad, well not really but darn close at times. When I first started having IC symptoms I had this as well. I told all those drs "i feel like I have to pee or have an orgasm. I do both, neither really helps" I started on imiprimine 10mg and that took care of the pee thing for the most part but the other...omg...I've taken darvacet, sleeping pills, valium and others. Thru the years, that feeling was joined but a rawness in the vaginal area if I sat too long. I'm a social worker/therapist and my last couple jobs, nothin but sittin! I just lost my job and decided to focus on my health. I see an acupunturist who is just the most kind and non-judgemental person ever and with the acu and the herbs I started to feel a bit better.
The period time: major flare. I found this online: http://www.restlessgenitalsyndrome.com/en/rgs-en.html I have restless legs as well and it was driving me nuts at the time too, so I tried "restful legs" by hyland (can get at walmart or walgreens) and OMG not only did it help with legs, but PSAS as well, I mean immediate relief! No crotch problem!! No icky feelings! It's a homeopathic remedy, and the theory is: a bit of the toxin heals like hair of the dog, or a vaccination. Less is more in this instance and since that seemed backward it took awhile to get the dosing right. At first I took 3 pills every 45 min. then 3 every 1 1/2, now I'm at 1 per 2 hrs. It's quite amazing really and so I wanted to share in hopes it might help someone else.
