Hey all...Happy new year.

I have gone to the doc and they have found a very small ovarian cyst on my left ovary...all they want to do is give me birth control to maybe shrink it.
I really don't even know where to go from here ,because b/c just doesn't suit the IC.
I totaly get why they do not want to go in surgically, I don't want that either...so are these all my options...Birth control or sit here and suffer with it...It is very painful. I have been putting it off for many months and just can't ignore it anymore. I just can't seem to bring myself to calling the doctors office again. It's just too much for me...all these doctors, I just sit here and cry and than that gets me no where.
So if anyone has some advice or even just some kind words, i would really appreciate it.

Thanks,
Tracey

HI there, I am sorry you are in such pain. May I ask what the size of the cyst is? Sometimes going in for surgery may worsen your ic. At the same time if you are already in pain I understand your dilemma.
I guess depending on the size of the cyst (this is where I would make) a decision. I also had two cysts on the left overy, one was 2 cm the other just a smidgen smaller. I was told to wait up to 6 months because most cysts will disappear on their own. (and this is what happened to mine).

YOu also need to find out what type of cyst it is?

FOR me, I went holistic and to help alleviate symptoms and to rid my cysts I did this: I got a fleece cloth (natural food store), and castor oil, you place a generous amount of castor oil on the fleece cloth, then lay the cloth over the left side of your body above the cysts, and then you place a hot heating pad over this (make sure between the heating pad and the fleece cloth you place a plastic grocery bag so you do not stain the heating pad with oil.

IS this was rid my cysts?? I do not know....but I did this faithfully every night and I was in less pain, and my cysts are non existent...

Just a thought.....

Peace
Blue

do all bcp's affect your IC? i've been able to use seasonique and loestrin pretty successfully.

sometimes cysts will go away on their own depending on what kind of cyst it is. if it's a corpus luteum cyst (the most common) and just fluid-filled, it will go away. i had one that burst, and it did hurt, but only for a half-hour when it happened. then it was over. they had put me on bcp to shrink it too, but it took care of itself that way.

but a lot of them will go away in a cycle or two. but they can cause pain until they're gone.

Hi all,

I had to have a catscan inorder for them to even find it...nothing showed up on either pelvic ultrasounds. It is 2.6 x 1.3cm, the report says no other mass lesions and no free fluid...if that helps.
I am scared to tell you how long this has been going on...because i to thought, it will just go away, it's not. This has been going on since March 08.
I am really scared...so i called my obgyn today, and have an appt for next Tuesday. I really don't even want to go, I know what he is going to say, here try this b/c and come back in a month or two and we will see :cussing:
I totaly understand his point of view and know this is the 1st treatment plan, just sucks...another 2 months in this pain ( it's not 24/7 ) but more than not.

I have tried about a dozen different b/c pills...all, i have flared on, but i haven't tried the 2 mentioned in this post, so i am definitely willing to try, and I will also try the oil and heating pad...least that i can start tomorrow on my own.
I really don't mean to whine & complain, its just starting to really freak me out and I am just so frustrated because i really had tried to work with this and than kind of well put it off..just didn't like my options. What a bad idea, I will never do that again.
I really appreciate the tips and kind words...it really helps having you ladies here, I don't come on the boards to often or say too much...It's just so hard seeing all the suffering, but i am sooooo very grateful for this forum.

Hey Tracey,

I'm sorry about all the pain you are experiencing:/ I know all too well the pain of cysts...I get them just about every month, and it sends my pain through the roof. I usually just curl up in a ball and hope it goes away...Most of the time I just lay in bed until they go away.

I've had a few burst on me during the summer...I was also given BC to control them, but was hesitant to take any sort of BC as I know IC is not fond of hormones very much...

I wish I had some better advice, but I am in the same boat...
I am going to talk with my dr. about why I keep getting them soo bad.

Anyways I hope ya figure some kind of treatment out and I hope your pain lets up soon.

Take care.

Hi,

Yes Jamie i hear you, and i appreciate the kind words.
I went to the obgyn today...My doc has moved so this is a new doc to me at the same office, He was very nice....but ( always a but ) he said exactly what i figure he would say about the bc etc..
He said because i have endo, cysts are very common, and can't see surgicaly removing it, because they come back. I do get where he is coming from, but this cyst thing is not something i always dealt with, Just this one bad experience thats lasting almost a year. I don't even think he thinks it's the same one, but i do.
So he scheduled me for another pelvic ultrasound which ****** me off, because the last time i did one nothing showed up and needed a cat scan to see it. I told him this but he still wants a current diagnosis, so i will do the test, but i am going to call some local people from the IC support group and get another opinion.
So that's where it stands for now, I do have a follow up appt w/him next week to go over test results etc..
It's really a shame that there isn't more they can do.
Thanks for listening and hope everyone is feeling well.

Tracey :)

Cysts are a pain literally, but you can manage them, I read up on them. It is something like 4 out of 5 women will get one her life time, you may never get another one, you proably don't want to have it remove when it is that small, but then in truth I can't speak for your pain, but I do know when I have a cyst it makes my IC pain and back pain much worse, or I blame it on the cycst. I think that we often get them and don't even know about it, and for what ever reason sometimes they cause people more proportionate pain. Good luck I am sure this will end for you sometime, maybe you might ask to have a ultra sound / Cscan each month for a couple of months so that you and the Dr. can see that it is or is not the exact same cyst and not a knew one comeing and going, they should be able to tell from location and size, and if it is not growing I or even if it is you need to know what kind it is I assume it is a fliud filled cyst or someone would have done something after all this time.

I truely hope you find some answers

I get them sooo much, that I can TELL when I have them...I get really really bad pressure...and my back hurts...

they make my period late as well...

then when they decide to rupture...I get my period or whatever it is.

But its not fun at all and its becoming an every month ordeal:/

I have to see the gyn soon to discuss with her a plan of action because its causing my pain to double.

I hope things get better for you and they figure out a course of action for ya.

Take care!

A second opinion could help or to get tested again months later. I had two, but when they tested again, one of them had disappeared. Praying for ya.
