Is there already a section for this? if so where?
I would like to hear from people with good experiences with nerve blocks and what specific type they were.
Thanks:hi:
I'm scheduled next month for a sacral nerve block

worked for a few days then worse than when I started from. was supposed to have another yesterday but too hard for dr. office to get hold of my ins. com.(???) yeah right so now it's next week and then 2 weeks after that. Dr. said too really give it 3x and several weeks to see if it works.
So I'm optimistic. Not really sometimes. I'm so doped up, cant drive or get out of house unless someone takes me.
Please kkeep writing me cuz I'll forget to write you with these drugs and such.
thanks for thinking of me. oh yeah, when i saw dr. yes. he gave me info on some other procedures that i haven't read yet.
Bless you and hope you feel better,
J:angel:

My doctor wants to actually sever some of the sacral nerves. I think this is different from a nerve block, doesn't a nerve block entail "numbing" the nerve? I'm pretty lost on the whole surgery deal...

Hi There!!
I have had a few sacral nerve blocks. They are mostly made up of a kind of steroid and a novacain type numbing in with it some thing like that any ways.I had a few of them and they helped
me for awhile.
I heard if you stick with it you could have a longer lasting effect with it,some people need to have more shots then others Thats what my old pain clinic said and did to me.I had it done 3 times, but I also have a lot of other things going on with me (including fibro, osteoperosis, herniated disks ect....)
Everyone is different some only need 2 or 3 others need more.
It is worth a try.I know I would like to try it again in the future when some other problems calm down soon I wish any ways.lol
Best of luck & Take care.Love Zookeeper Kim

I would put this discussion under Pain Management or Other Treatment. I think you will get more response there.
I have had 6 nerve blocks and I am sorry to say they did not help me. We are all different though and what helps one might not help the other. Keep trying.

Zookeeper,
I also have more issues going on than ic unfortunately. They are: fibro, arthritis, L4-5 slipped discs which are being helped with nerve block, trigeminal neurolgia(worst facial pain to mankind, medication helps, many suffers get surgery to cut nerves in head to facial pain) daily meds plus migraines meds for migraines, ibs, hysterectomy, endo, plus more I can't think of at this moment.
WE shall hang in there. How did you know the endo had spread down your leg? I only thought it was internal.
Thanks and feel better,  Julie

I got a sacral nerve block & I was so sick. I had the "twilight" in surgery & I remember crying so bad cuz I could feel it! The Doc from the pain clinic kept saying I can't give u anymore meds I gave u enough "relax". BS-you relax!! Your hurting me! After she would give me lortab 10/500 & didn't want 2 do that. I was soooo sick after that. I couldn't hold anything down, the pain was immesurable! They said I'll be fine- it gets worse before it gets better. WHAT!!!!! I would've never done it. It was the worst procedure I've ever had done since being diagnosed 1-16-02. I went back of course she just said it didn't work, sometimes you need a few treatments before your pain free. I went back in a week. The vomiting stopped but I was still in unbelievable pain. She said obviously didn't work for you, I can't help you. I haven't fpund anyone to help me in 3 yrs!! It's crazy. I think I foundly found a good Doc. My mom came w/ me & she said it's the best Doc I've seen since I got ic.He's a keeper!

Blooore,
So sorry you had to go through that. The pain dr. usually says committ to a series of 3 before giving up. I also knew from message board that others could feel and got sick so due to the fact that they lay you on your tummy and it put's me in agony I spoke to my pain dr. about putting me out completely. He said more chance of problems, etc.. My reply was I don't care, so I have never gotten sick and feel so fortunate. I think I'm may be making progress slowly. Your pain dr. also sounds like it's not a good fit and the search must be on for a new one.
So perhaps anyone reading this could also get knocked out completely. The first visit w/ pain dr. I was scared of him but now I really like him. He gave me some tapes to watch for surgery and I've decided not to have. He also spoke about pain pump and I just don't think I'm ready for that.
I wish you the best of luck, take good care of yourself and please keep in touch.
