I came across some readings that Marshmallow Root was the next big thing in herbal IC treatment so I decided to go out to my local health food store and pick some up. From what I read the tea was not the greatest tasting I am a super picky eater/drinker so I decided to try Solarray's Marshmallow root 480 mg capsules. Within a few days I noticed an increase in frequency and overall discomfort and threw away the rest of the capsules. Has anyone else had any experiences with Marshmallow Root?

Funny you should say that as ive started drinking marshmallow root in tea form. I bought a huge bag of the root and just dunk it in hot water. Nothing really to report at the moment, no adverse side effects. As with all IC products it seems you have to try them for a while. Theres a good book which details the benefits of marshmallow root, I can give you the title if you want.
Also note that MMR is a toxic cleanser and your increase in pain / frequency "could" be toxins being flushed from your body.
Perhaps Ive been reading too much of this mumbo jumbo, but I decided to give it a go anyway.

My body seems to take to things very quickly. My IC is very mild compared to what I normally read about but my main issue of frequency is still in limbo. Keep me posted on your experience with MMR.

I only drink a cup of MMR tea here and there...I normally drink it when I am feeling a bit of a flare. I find it provides almost an instant calm and feels as though it coats my bladder pain. I always get relief from drinking it.
BUT IF you drink too much of MMR tea it can cause a bit of frequency due to the fact that it is a diueretic. I have not experienced this myself as I do not exceed more then two bags a day when I do take it. (which is not every day....I may drink MMR tea once or twice a week)....(also make sure of your ingredients, that it is PURE ORGANIC marshmallow root and leaf (althaea officinalis) tea caffeine free....) My box is made by celebration herbals.
MMR tea is also good if you feel a cold coming on or have a sore throat or bronchitis, it helps soothe the throat and helps with mucus. (ok..too much info!) LOL!
Anyway, I have heard a few ladies here say that MMR tea has increased their frequency, but I have also read a lot of ladies say that it helps them tremendously. SO IT is one of those things, it certainly is an individuals body chemistry and how it is going to react. We are all different.
Wishing you well,
Peace

I can't tolerate it because I already take a diuretic for high blood pressure.
