Hi guys! :hi: I can't pee. I sit on the toilet ,and I sit and I sit and nothing comes out. This has never happened to me before and I'm starting to get scared. Can anyone help me please. Thanks!

Sometimes it helps to run water between your legs as you sit on the toilet or stand in the shower (I know, yucky). Don't try to push it out, urinating is a prosess of relaxing the muscles. Concentrate on relaxing with slow breaths in and out. If in a few hours you still can't go, you will need to go to the ER and get cathed. :frown: It just sometimes happens.
Even if you do end up going, be sure to discuss this with your doctor soon. It may be a reaction to medication (which could lead to other problems) or an infection.

Good luck!! I am saying a pray for you right now!!

Hugs, :p

Hmmm... sounds like you may be retaining. I've been there before, and know how uncomfortable it can be. In addition to what Audrey Rose has told you, you can try sitting in a tub of hot water to relax your pelvic floor muscles... sometimes this will relax them enough to allow you to urinate. If none of these suggestions gets your flow going though, you will need to go to the ER to be catheterized, as retaining urine for extended periods can lead to infection and more pain.

And even if you can urinate, definitely speak to your doc about this episode...

I hope you are able to go soon!! :)

This has happened to me....first of all...relax. Take a warm bath (no fun smelly bubbly stuff), drink lots of water and don't force the urine to come out. It will, but those muscles are spasming and forcing yourself to pee could damage the muscles.

Once a nurse even told me to sit in a warm bath and pee there if I had to. Maybe a heating pad could help you too?

Take care,
Alexa

Theese gals know what they are talking about. Once I walked slowly around the house and than tried again...ammazed that walking around helped. Don't strain to go....and do what you can to relax those muscles.....heat alternating with cold is a relaxer for sure for those musscles.

The others are right. Sitting in warm water can definitely help relax those muscles so you can urinate. And definitely head for ER if your bladder is full and you can't empty it. Sometimes with IC we can feel like we need to go and there really isn't anything in there, but that doesn't sound like what's happening to you.

If this problem persists, I do suggest you talk with your doctor about learning to catheterize yourself. It can be a life saver at times.

Also, there are medications that can help you to relax so you can urinate.

Sending warm healing thoughts,
Donna
