View Full Version : flare and menstrual spotting

Hi guys. Long time, no post -which is good, obviously. I had a baby last Sept. and have had very little irritation/pain since then. Since I have pelvic floor dysfunction, I really hoped that all the stretching from labor had rendered me free from this hell. But starting Friday I began with the pain and frequency.
The pain is reaching from my bladder to up under my rib cage, which seems a bit unusual for me. I went to a clinic for a urine test, but they said no infection (although they wouldn't culture it for me).
Interestingly, when I came home from the clinic yesterday afternoon, I started having menstrual spotting (or SOME kind of vaginal bleeding, anyway - an no, there was no internal exam at the walk in clinic). I have never spotted mid-month before. I am thinking I will call my GYN tomorrow, even though the spotting is slight, unless it stops altogether.
Any ideas about whether the flare and the spotting are related? Also, since I last had pain, I have developed an allergy to all NSAIDs and aspirin. So I can take tylenol, or use up a few of my precious Darvoset, which were prescribed for muscle spasms after pregnancy. I am also using AZO standard. Anybody know how many of those and how often you can really take them? I know it is more than what is on the package.
Thanks. I am trying not to cry. I just knew I was past this...

I am so sorry you are sad Brenna. :frown: I'll cry with you...it is so hard when symptoms return.
But I think your bleeding is more likely a GYN thing. You might want to call and talk to your GYN about it. I am not aware of vaginal bleeding being associated directly to an IC flare. But I do know that GYN problems can aggravate the IC bladder.
Keep us posted, okay?
BIG bear hug,
Katrina

My concern is that yes the pain and the bleeding could be related...maybe you are not having a flare....but something else is wrong .....(I have a big problem with me thinking one of my normal diseases is worse and not recognizing the possible connection between one symptom and another) I am hoping this isn't the case but since it the possibily exsists you should definatly tell a gynocologist.
One other thought I have is that both are because you are ovulating...when I was at my worse I would always flare at ovulation.

I have had a very bad uti before but yet it didnt show up at first until my doctor sent my urine off (he always does because mine are stange better safe then sorry he says and i agree) but the infection got so bad i was spotting come to find out it was a uti causeing this the blood however was coming from my bladder.
I was put in the hosp shortly after for a kidney and bladder infection and had to take iv anti for five days :(
also i have been upset and my nerves got bad not to long ago and that also caused bleeding i would have my peroid or some what of a peroid not a real one but yet it seemed like it for two weeks in a roll ever 14 days i had one this went on for four mths but it was from my nerves.
please talk to your doctor this could be coming from many things but its better safe then sorry please get it checked out.
i'm so happy you havent had to be posting because you are having good days.
How is your baby doing?? Oh i bet your baby is growing like a weed. do you have any picture to share with us??? i know its been a while since you post. im so happy for your family with a new little one. it makes me wish i hadnt had my tubes tied I want another little one so badly now.
my baby is five and i really miss having a small baby around I didn't even mind getting up in the middle of the night I have always loved being a mommy but i tell you one thing my older ones they are heck and they dont want to mind me at all but i'm learning to deal with that too. seems like my five year old wants to help me he trys so hard to help me and his daddy. but the older ones they are so lazy all they want to do is come home throw there clothes everywhere and leave them there for one of the adults to come behind them to pick them up boy have i had a long talk with them today.
i'm sending you hugs and prayers I know you are worried about this i would be too, but please don't try to stress to much over it hopefully its just a simple thing that the doctor can fix.
Rhonda

You guys are great! I feel a bit better already.
I think I will call the GYN tomorrow, although the spotting seems to have slowed or stopped. Better safe than sorry, eh?
Rhonda - the baby is a big boy! He is six months old today. I don't have a pic avail right now, but will see what I can do later.
When you had the urine sent off and they cultured something, did you have any signs in the sample that they could see? I wanted the walk in clinic to send it off but they wouldn't because no bacteria was seen in the urine. There were also no white blood cells or anything.
Thanks!

I'm glad you are planning to call your gyn tomorrow. It does sound very much like you could have a gyn problem and not an IC flare. Are you on birth control pills? It's been a very long time, but I couldn't take them due to mid month spotting.
Sending warm healing thoughts,
Donna
Let us know what you find out today. I also wonder about gyno involvement. Good luck.:grouphug:

Well, I have to admit that I didn't call the GYN today. The spotting stopped, and I didn't have to take nearly as many meds today and I feel ok. I am cautiously optimistic.
I am avoiding all antihisitmines (I was taking more Benedry than usual) because they often caused a flare. I got cocky, I guess.
Thanks for all the advice and support. I am thinking that I had some sort of hormonal "hiccup" that upset everything. I am not on the pill, but perhaps I am still adjusting after the baby.
Thanks again!
