Hey out there,

I've been getting this really sharp STAB on the right side of my pelvis about 2 times a minute for the past couple days, even when not flaring. It shoots a pain down my leg and lasts for about 3 seconds.

I've had it before... once after consuming some salad dressing. Another time after a little apple juice. And it started up when I removed Heparin from my instills then disappeared when I put it back in a few months ago.

So I know it's related to my IC, but it doesn't FEEL like a flare.

AND it doesn't FEEL like all the nerve pains I get through the rest of my body. It doesn't come with urgency or pain anywhere else in my bladder ... it basically causes me to stop and yell "OUCH!!"

It's bad enough now that I dream about it when I'm asleep.

Has anyone had this symptom? Does it mean I have an ulcer or something? I can't talk my urologist into doing a cystoscopy. She keeps saying that won't show anything but she's happy to do the hydrodistension. Thing is I know that doesn't help and costs me $500!

Oh well. ANYBODY ELSE? Does it ever stop? I keep hitting it with Percocet while I'm at work, which never turns out good... lol.

Thanks!

Tara,

When I was first Diagnosed I was getting these sharp nerve pains.. They would start at my pelvis in my growin and down my leg. I ask my Dr for Topamax because I heard it helped with nerve pain for people with Diabetes she was sceptic but put me on 50mg.. And since then the pain went away.. The added benefit to this med is it also has made my migraines go away!!

Now I think adding the Lyrica with this medicine has helped all the pains I was having!!

Hello Tara!

I too, have had these odd, out-of-the-blue stabbing (and sharp) pains that start in the right side of my pelvis and radiate up towards my back, and down towards my groin/leg. It only lasts a few seconds, and makes me jump like crazy. Sometimes I'll be driving when this happens, which is kind of freighting!

I was diagnosed with IC only since October, but these stabbing pains have been there since I first started getting symptoms, about four years ago. I never really associated the stabbing pains with nerves before, but I guess it makes sense! My urologist didn't explain anything about this symptom to me ...

Take care,
Ally

I had the same kind of pain . My Dr did the hydrodistention and discovered that I had a "lesion"on the right side of my bladder where the pain was and removed it during the procedure. I still have the pain once in a while but nothing like before.

Hi Tara,

I've had those types of pains for years, even before I was diagnosed with IC. I can't tell you what causes them, but I can tell you that you're not alone. Sometimes I find that when heat doesn't help an ice pack does. You should talk to your Dr. as it could be anything from your bladder being inflammed to muscle spasms in your pelvic floor (or like me the wind blowing in the East instead of the West :) ). Either way he/she may be able to help you. Good luck. I hope you feel better soon.

Christine

Hi There!

I'm confused about the flares. I have IC for about a year. The frequency comes and goes and now I have a yeast infection and I always have a sudden pain on my lower left and right side. Sometimes it is a stabbing. What is a flare? This whole problem stinks. It consumes me!

Yeah, flares consume us. These sharp stabs aren't all consuming but they're REALLY odd and HURT! Glad to hear I'm not alone :) I saw my urologist last week. She said it's more issues with the nerves and there's just SO MUCH WE DON'T KNOW. But it's probably referred pain from the inflamed area. One good thing is that I can control it with instills when it gets nasty. My uro said I should go right ahead and lets me do them every day now if I want. Haven't quit my job yet!
