View Full Version : Was this an antibiotic reaction??

I got the flu a few weeks ago. It was getting worse over the weekend, so I went to see my doctor the following Monday. He didn't like the gunk in my throat and my swollen lymph nodes (I've already had all this allergy related sinus stuff). For my upper respiratory infection, he gave me Amoxicillan since I've had so many antibiotic allergies. I felt really nauseous...like I was about to throw up. I felt like that all week...taking 3 pills a day. I lived on Ritz crackers and Sprite. By the end of the week I felt much better, but the nausea wouldn't go away. I finally figured out that I felt like that after I took the pills. I'm usually really good about finishing my medicine, but I didn't finish the last 4 pills because I was so tired of feeling that nauseous. I'm going to mention this to my doctor next time. I have taken a lot of antibiotics for different things--I had sinusitis in college that wouldn't go away. Nothing ever made me this nauseous. I never threw up, but I felt like I would. Was it the medicine?

you should talk to your doctor about this but to me yes it does sound that way i have did that with alot of anti. I can't take no type of pnc. drugs i have alot of allergies also.
have you took this in the pass? if not its a good chance this is what it was from and again it could have been the virus you had also but to me it really sounds like the anti you was taking if the feeling has went away since your threw with the medcine or you only felt this after the medcine and nothing else its a very good chances this is what it was.
sending you hugs and prayers

Its been a long time since I've had amoxycillan. The feeling would go away if I forgot a pill. The doctor purposefully tried to give me something he thought I could take. I didn't have any rashes or anything, but I'm never taking these pills again if I can help it. I'm just glad I'm not the only one that's had this reaction.

i don't know if leviquin would keep you with the type of infection you had or not or even if you can take leviquin but that is one safe drug for me when i need an anti.
it does sound like it was the medicine that was doing this to you.
still let your doctor know so they can put this on your records just to be on the safe side.
sending you hugs and prayers

I agree that the antibiotic might have been the problem. It's something you should discuss with your physician. If nausea was the only side effect, it may be that you could still take it if you took something to help avoid nausea.
I usd to be able to take both penicillin and sulfa drugs, but I have developed allergies to both so I have to depend on other kinds of antibiotics.
Warm healing thoughts,
Donna
