Hi my name is christina and i am 34. I have had IC since i was 17 but was diagnosed when i was about 24.

I was lucky to get diagnosed with my first visit to a uroligist. I am lucky in a sense because my IC goes into remission when it feels like it.

I am writing because i was in remission for about 3 years and then suddenly a obout a week ago it started again. Now it wont stop. I talked to my regular doctor and am on claritin (not helping) and urimax (not helping). I am also on anafranil for my anxiety and depression that i suffer aside from the IC. My doctor wont prescribe vicodine because it is so addicting. At this point i really dont care (well i do but i dont). Matter of fact there is some on top of my fridge that i have been thinking about taking for two days but dont have the guts because i am afraid to be addicted to it.

Any ways i am at a loss of what to do now. My regular doctor was not on call today and i spoke to another doctor from the office she told me there was nothing she could do but maybe take another dosage of my anafranil (i am currently taking 25mg) so i uped that tonight along with the other meds i had stated taking.

I think i may call him or give in and take the vicodine. Anyways i forgot to mention that i add marshmallow root to my water because i heard that can add a mucous lining to your bladder. I will try anything at this point. You all know how hard it is to function.

I would appreciate any help from any of you. You can email me at the boards or at my email tialove@rochester.rr.com

Thanks for listening.

christina

Hi there... if you are in pain, please either take the Vicodin or go to the ER to get some pain control like Rhonda suggested-- she knows what she is talking about.

As for getting addicted, despite what you hear about how easy it is to do so, I have found that it would actually be really hard for me to get addicted to my pain meds... I take them for a few days to get through a flare, but by the second or third day I'm always better-- and so sick of my pain meds I don't even want to LOOK at the bottle. So I put them away until the next time I flare :)

WELCOME TO THE ICN FAMILY!!!

I am sorry your IC is back. I wish I had the perfect answer for you but I don't. All I can say is that we are here for you....and that this is a wonderful family that is great to be a part of. Even if I don't have any great advise I believe in this family to have some from someone.

I also take pain medications when I need them. I have done this for all of my 29 years since my IC was diagnosed --- and so far no addiction. I usually only need them for a few days to get out of a flare.

Some people need pain control full time for IC, and some do become physically dependent after months on pain medications, but if that happens they are weaned slowly from the meds when they are no longer needed.

Do you have a urologist? If not, I think it would be a good idea to see one.

Warm healing thoughts,
Donna
