MOST IMPORTANT:COLD PACKS of frozen veggies, ice in a ziploc, frozen ANYTHING...even a cold can of soda... between your legs, on your belly, on your lower back and butt. That will calm the burning or at least get your mind off it. IF you have interior vaginal burning, some women have filled condoms with water and freeze them so they can insert them like vaginal popsicles ;) I've even just stuck a small cube of ice inside to get relief...it melts quickly so no worries about freezerburn
What also helps me:
My rx Pain med Tylenol 3 along with an ibuprofen or alleve
OR
Regular Tylenol and/or IbuprofenorALLEVE (my pharmacist said it was ok to take both at same time...)
Pyridium (or OTC Uristat AZO Standard)
Low dose Elavil 10 mg
Believe me, I HAVE had to take Tylenol for the pain, Ibuprofen or alleve for the rawness and inflammation, pyridium for the burning, Elavil or something else to help me sleep, and lidocaine for the burning, as well as the cold packs all at the same time (approved by my dr and pharmacist) to get things under control when my VV used to flare REALLY disabling bad for weeks on end. If these are meds that you do not usually take, or do not usually take all at the same time, please call 24 hr pharmacy to make sure they are ok for YOU to take.
Also, I have found that lidocaine patches 5% give me almost immediate and sometimes complete relief within 10 mins. If you have never used these they can be a lifesaver, they are for me at least. Can be applied for up to 12 hours....I use them between my legs like a pantyliner, on my lower bum (my Vulvodynia causes extreme nerve burning sensations there) and also on my lower back for IC referred back pain with much success. If you have not tried these it is worth it to get a box of 30...they are affordable if you have insurance, if you don't they will put you in the poorhouse. But they work like magic for me.
Hope any of this helps...I see in your sig that you don't take many Rx meds...so if you can tolerate tylenol and advil/alleve, OTC URistat or AZO STandard, those are things that I keep in my IC/VV emergency kit and use them with muich success for my VV and Vulvodynia symptoms, in addition to lidocaine gel and patches. Best wishes, Bri:)

Hi
For me, I found the homeopathic cream from homeocan called Herpes to be quite soothing. (I don't have herpes but this cream helped me) It didn't take away all the pain but it helped. Also, taking epsom salt baths truly help (most helpful). I had a lot less pain after a long soak. I've also been suggested to soak in a pan of chamomile tea, it might work for you, it didn't do anything for me but we are all different.

A friend with VV once told me that she placed a wet tea bag directly on the area and it was soothing.
