I'm wanting to connect with other people with IC who have had pelvic surgery and then ended up having worse IC. I am 7 weeks post-op from a vaginal hysterectomy, rectocele and cystocele repairs and a bladder sling. I never had any incontinence, just pretty severe prolapse which my doctor felt was probably aggravating my IC. I thought I had a pretty mild case and 10 years ago they didn't find any glommerations or ulcers when I had the hydro/cysto. Now, during the surgery they find my bladder has "marked IC" and now that I'm basically almost recovered from the surgery itself, my bladder is worse with bad frequency and pain. I've started having to take the vicodin that I used to take only occasionally during bad flares to pretty much on a regular basis if I want to be at all comfortable and not pee nonstop. My urogynecologist surgeon, who is not the doctor who prescribed the pain meds for IC from before, wants me to start Elmiron, hydroxyzine, imipramine and urita-C, al at the same time to attack it at once. She's not wild about me taking pain meds. I'd like to be off the pain meds, too, but not looking forward to all the side effects that I got years ago when I tried all of those other things. I'm thinking maybe I should try one at a time to determine which is causing which side effect.
Anyway, just want to know if there are other IC'ers who have experienced this kind of surgery and how they cope. Thanks, Nancy

You had a huge surgery --- actually I have had the same things done, but not all at once. Seven weeks can seem like an eternity, but after I had my sling put in I was not allowed to do any lifting for several months. Hopefully you'll feel better soon.

Warm hugs,
