OK...I was informed I should move a question I had from Nuero stuff to pain management. About 3 weeks ago I had a nerve block from lidacaine (superior hypogastric yaddah, yaddah) Anyway, it was an awful experience for me. First, I had to convince themI'd need a sedative or something because of problems with a nasty epidural I had in my second pregancy. I was very afraid of this procedure. (broke out in a sweat and felt like I was going to throw up, etc..) So they gave me two units of versed, which usually makes me very happy. Well, this hurt so bad that I nearly jumped off the table and the doctor had to call his front office assistant in to help. (I was quite squirmy and yelling my head off...that's when I got the second unit but it barely helped)

So, the question: the block worked for about 4 hours but my back hurt so bad from the abuse of the needle I felt like my middle was beaten by a bat. I had a bit of relief on my right side, a little in the bladder. SOOO....they think that's good enough relief to provide me with a permanent block..same procedure, different meds. (It kills that nerve plexus) He is the Pain specialist. I'm scared poop less. (does poop get censored?) :D Has anyone had this procedure...the permanant....? How well does it work? Do you all agree I should demand more pain/sedation relief? I think I;ve built such a tolerance that the normal dosage doesn't work.

Thanks

Tracey

Well, you two just made the decision for me that trying a nerve block is OUT OF THE QUESTION:cussing:

Teri:

Just remember it is all personal...What sucked for me, may be a godsend for you. At least talk to your doc about it. Maybe, try the temp see if you get relief. Part of my problem is fear, that is unreasonable...call it Post traumatic stress from a majorly F....up epidural but I go into fight or flight and I think part of the fault was likely mine due to the fact I fought the entire procedure. I just think with my history he didn't take me seriously and needed to knock me out more.

Remember...WE are all so different in our experiences....:)

I had a bad experiance from the same kind of nerve block you had done. Although the procedure itself went fine for me, I had total retention afterwards from about the 4th day lasting for almost a month. The pain dr swears the nerve block couldnt have caused this, and thinks it is an IC thing. However, I have never had retention with my IC. He wants to schedule another one when I return to him in 2 weeks. I am scared that if I decline then he may think I am uncooperative and want to drop me from his practice. Has anyone out there ever been dropped for declining something that they have tried and didnt think worked but the dr thought did?
