Just wondering if anyone else on this board is being directly effected by the possible bankruptcy of the big 3 automakers?

Yeah, it's really awful. My dh does work for one of the big 3 and we are terrified. Especially since I stay home with our 4 kids, so his income and insurance is all we have. Pretty scary for everyone being effected.
I keep hoping I can keep my stress levels down so I don't flare

The big 3. If this bailout we all will be affected by the big 3. I also live in Michigan and am very worried for our entire country if even one of the big 3 folds up. This is not good. I feel for the families that have members directly employed there. This will trickle down to millions if we don't get the bailout. Now we must wait till December 3rd for more news. Try to have a nice Thanksgiving. Be thankful that we do live in the USA and pray for our country as a whole we need it in so many ways right now. Pray for the men and women representing the USA in Iraq and Afghanistan that won't be home for yet again another holiday for some of them. God Bless The USA. Vicky

My husband works for a supplier and they are fighting all three companies for money owed them. They all had to take a number of days without pay this year, and they are still going to lay off employees in a few weeks. Two of my brothers work for GM and their jobs are definitely in jeopardy....
And the people in Michigan are just as mad at the private jet, no I won't take a cut in my humongous salary business. They didn't do ANY of us any favors with those actions. I am thinking that if this isn't resolved in a few weeks that WallStreet is going to topple completely.

This is all so true. I'm really scared. We live in Michigan too and with our economy already being so bad, it makes it even more scary. But it will be a domino effect, more than a lot of people realize.
And yeah, the private jet, won't take a pay cut, won't resign even if it means the company folds crap is crappy. My husband was a little peeved at the union guy who said that the workers wouldn't take a pay cut or give anything up. My husband said, if it means he keeps his job, he'll take a pay cut in a heartbeat.

I have talked to lots of people who have said they would take a pay cut......and think about that......someone making $15 an hour doing clerical work is willing but UAW (upwards of $50 an hour) and Bob Wagoner (what 11 mill a year) won't?
ugh

Unfortunately, the entire country will suffer if the auto industry continues the downslide. It's a very sad situation.

National news tonight with Brian Williams each of the three ceo's of the auto industry arrived on their own private jet. One would think they could have shared one. Then I think it is GM announced they are getting rid of 2 of their 5 private jets forgive me if it was not GM but one of them was.
Wall Street is going to topple- I am afraid I will have no retirement account left at all as many of you as well. My 95 year old Grandmother wants to take her SS checks and put the money in the mattress. She doesn't really but she has wondered about it. Vicky

Hi there! I also live in Michigan and it's very hard to not be effected by what is going on with the Big 3. Most of my family works for Ford Motor Company, and my dad and step-mom are retired from Ford Motor Company. It's very sad what is happening to everyone across the country and especially here in the metro-Detroit area. It's a scary time for everyone. I think everyone in the area is wondering about how they will live if something happens - because as you have all already said - it trickles down to everyone and effects many other businesses (and jobs).
Good luck to everyone who is directly effected. I hope they come up with a good plan to survive.
Take care,
Jennifer
