Hi my name is heather, Im 21 years old and I just found out that I have IC. On top of that, after a month of being diagnosed I found out Im pregnant and have been on elmiron almost the whole time. So Im scared. I dont know what I can and cant have.

Well, you just wrote my story! I was diagnosed with IC (after 3 plus years of symptoms) on Oct. 15th by Dr. Moldwin, and found out that I am pregnant on Oct. 24th. Yikes. I know exactly how you feel. But do not worry about the Elmiron. First off, it is a Class B drug, and many women remain on it throughout pregnancy.

Just talk to your doctor about your concerns, and I am sure he or she will reassure you your baby is fine. As for treatment, I personally will be starting Elmiron and instills the second trimester (if I can make it that long) and hopefully even Atarax. Please let me know if you need to talk as I am going through the exact same thing. I will pray that you and I both go into remission during pregnancy!

Hello and :welcome: to the ICN!! I agree, it's best to talk to your doctor on what meds to take and not take - they will definitely work with you on that, don't be scared! I am 25 weeks and currently not taking any IC meds - I was taking hydroxyzine (Atarax/Vistaril) up until hubby and I decided to start trying to conceive and I stopped taking it due to it being a class C drug. But, I do take Zyrtec (class B) for my regular allergies and hope it helps the bladder too, lol. If you haven't already I suggest giving the diet a look-over as it can be a huge symptom management tool ;)

I am about 7-weeks pregnant. Talk to your doctors about which meds you can take--every doctor is different. My two doctors (IC specialist and ob-gyn) both told me that I can take elmiron and vistaril (hydroxyzine) during the first trimester. Elmiron is a class B--about the safest med that you can take during the pregnancy. If you are in pain, pyridium is considered safe, too; it is a class B. When my IC symptoms were very severe during the first trimester of my last pregnancy, I took pyridium (this was before I was officially diagnosed with IC).
