I had my cysto on Fri morning and Saturday, the urgency and frequency started to get bad. Before my cysto, my main IC symptom was pelvic pain and some urgency. Now the pelvic pain is improved but the U/F is really bad. Since yesterday, I have also been passing gas with my urine. This has never happened before and it is also quite painful. I am currently taking a 3-day dose of Cipro but am concerned about this gas. All I've been able to find out about it is that it could indicate a fistula.

Has anyone ever encountered this before? I already plan to call my uro in the morning but I am concerned about this.

Sometimes during a cysto (or even a simple catheterization) air gets pushed up into the urethra/bladder; the body expels it just as you're describing. It shouldnt last longer than a few days..if it does contact your Dr.
Frequency and urgency also isnt uncommon post cysto/hydro--again, this should start calming down as the irritation from the procedure starts to subside.

If you're at all concerned dont hesitate to ring your Dr--thats what s/he gets paid for.

Feel better soon.

It's not unusual to get increased or different symptoms following a hydro. Unfortunately it goes with the territory but for most people these things resolve themselves within a week or two. Sometimes less, sometimes more. The cath they use during the hydro is larger than what most of us would be able to tolerate for very long if awake, so possibly your urethra is just irritated and of course your bladder is irritated from being distended. That most likely is the reason for an increase in U/F and should get better as your body recovers and heals from the surgery and it is not uncommon to have urethral spasms for a few days after a hydro. This surgery is pretty stressful for the bladder along with being poked and prodded in places that are usually not subjected to that! But don't hesitate to call your dr if you have any concerns.
Best wishes,Bri:)
