Hello,

I got my ic diagnosis four weeks ago and my dr put me on Elmiron. I have also been following the diet but it is driving me crazy. I miss my favorite foods like pepperoni pizza. With the holidays approaching I am going to miss out on alot of my favorite holiday foods. I know that following the ic diet helps me feel better but I sure miss my favorite foods!

Thanks for letting me vent. I am so glad I found this site. It is nice to know that I am not alone.

Hi and Welcome:flower:

I was diagnosed in Aug of this year, and I too am mourning all the foods that I will miss over the holidays -- but I think I'll be able to stick to the diet, because I would not want the level of pain, urgency and frequency that I had before I discovered the diet -

I love chocolate, but surprisingly I haven't missed it that much, because I remember what it did to me before I found out about the IC diet - not planning on going there again!!!

My family, although they don't understand IC completely, are all very accommodating about my diet and always prepare things that I can have along with the standard fare whenever I go to visit them --

I hope you do well over the holidays and that you won't mourn the foods you can't have too badly -- just remember the trade off isn't really worth it --

Hope you are feeling better each and every day.

Thanks for the reply. I just needed to do some venting. My family are trying to understand. I am the only one they know with ic so they are not familiar with the condition.

Does Prelief help? I have never heard of this product.

Hello and :welcome:

I know in the beginning I thought I was going to miss all those forbidden foods and from time to time I do but I have made so many new discoveries on ways to cook with other foods and fresh herbs.. You can look in the diet section and see a lot of IC friendly recipes.. Also if you look in The ICN Shop we have some good cook cook books that are available..

Again welcome and if you need anything just ask..

Thanks for the nice welcome. I do have a question. The past few days it seems like I have to go to the bathroom more often than before. I will go and it seems like five minutes later and I feel the need to go again. Is this just a part of having ic and do I just have to put up with it or is this something that will get better the longer I am on the Elmiron? I don't go back to my dr until December 1st. Any information would be sincerely appreciated.

Also, are there any ic friendly recipes that are quick and easy? It's hard to get excited about cooking after a long hard day at work.

Thanks,

Hi! I was dx. w/ IC a month ago too. This website is a blessing. I purchased the new patient kit & have learned so much in the books & on this website. The cookbook has easy to prepare meals. We are probably at the same place emotionally. I miss all my favorite foods too. I have the urgency problem too. The dr. has been switching my meds around alot because I keep having terrible side effects. Good luck to you, feel better.
