Has anyone had any luck with any kind of pain reliever that you can buy over the counter.
I take darvocet for pain it stops the pain but I can't function. I can't take it before I go to the ur to get an instillation because I usually don't have anyone to take me. It really helps to take a darvocet before I have to have an instillation.
I am having low pelvic pain, just like BAD menstrual cramping. I have tried motrin or ibuprofen products that does nothing for the pain and then makes me flare worse.
I have another instillation this am. Any suggestions before I go endure that horrible catherizing.
I am about ready to stop these instillations because if I am not in pain before I go I sure am after I leave. Not sure if it is worth it, and I can't see that much difference in my pain. I see my ur April 8th.
I certianly don't want to get hooked on taking darvocet......I can not take codeine. Soooooooooooooo any suggestions?
Thanks Denise

ibeprofen is acidic don't try it! I use an external analgesic....helps more than you would think it would. I am thinking of trying Prilosec or something...not so much for pain but because it is newly non prescription acid reducer.....Good luck on getting relief.

I was told by my Dr to not take any anti-inflamatories.. so no Ibuprofen or advil basically all he could recommend was Tylernol...He just said the anti-in, might make the IC worse.

Thanks for the replies
I made it through the instillation this morn. This is the 3rd week instillations and I just don't know about this. I am thinking maybe a hydro may just be easier. Just pain for a few days afterwards NOT every time I go in to be cathed.
I take acifex for acid reflux. Plain tylenol does nothing.
I took a valium before I went. It is just those nurses don't seem to have the least bit of sympathy. There was one lady who came out before me and she could hardly stand up, but do you think the office people cared..... NO they just wanted her money and to move on to the next person in line.
Came home with alittle cramping so far have not had to take anything, I laid down with heat and it is not unbearable now... but CRAVING all the wrong foods. I would kill for a piece of chocolate. Just yelled at my husband, then burst into tears.
I HATE IC...........I HATE IC.................I HATE IC
IC is just not fair. Sorry girls I am just feeling sorry for myself today.
And I took the day off work for this??

If you are in pain and Darvocet is the only thing that will decrease your pain, take it. Studies have shown (And I have read alot of studies because I have been on 90 mgs of morphine daily since July) that people who are truly in pain don't get addicted. The stronger drugs, like morphine, are difficult to physically get off of because of your body's dependence. So they slowly taper the dose when the time comes. Not much fun but I figure Ineed to control the pain now so I can get on with my life. Darvocet, I believe, is not a real strong pain reliever so every now and then to take for a day shouldn't hurt, but look up the effects on the internet. (try a google search) No one should be in constant pain from this stupid disease. Good luck!!
