My problem started about 2 weeks ago when my boyfriend and I had just regular sex. Afterwards I went to the bathroom and saw that there was bright red blood dripping out of me. When I wiped it was everywhere, it just seemed like there was a lot. I slept with a pad that night and in the morning was still bleeding a little but not much. I have an IUD and have not had my period for about8 months but this was def. not period blood. For the next week after this incident I had brownish discharge sort of like after your period so I thought maybe after all it was my period and didn't think anything of it again. Well, had sex again last night and the same thing happened. Bright red blood again it just does not seem like period blood at all so I am getting a little worried because I won't be able to call the doctor untill monday. Any Ideas about what this could be? or has anyone had something similar happen? please post anything, thanks.

I think you should give the on call dr a call. I never had an IUD but recall having that bleeding after sex, and 9 momths later I had a girl. Your IUD may have moved.
I would rther call and be safe then sorry. I never heard of this before. But my neighbor had an IUD it damaged her uteris.
keep us posted.

Most docs have on-call services for after-hours issues. I'd call if I were worried about it this weekend and definitely call for pelvic exam on Monday. Could be something with the iud, could be a benign polyp on the cervix which gets irritated from intercourse... lots of possibilities. If you're having severe pain, cramping, and/or soaking a pad in an hour's time you need to call asap.

You do need medical attention. One possibility is the IUD has moved.

Have you placed that phone call to the doctor's office yet to talk with the on call physician?

Thanks for the answers. I called the doctor and she can't see me until next tuesday the 18th. I did take a pregnancy test though and it was negative.

That seems like an awfully long time to wait. Has the bleeding stopped? Can you see a different doctor?

Keep us in the loop as much as you can....

That does seem like a long time. Did you get your name on a "cancellation list"?

I agree - it seems like a very long time to me. I would try to get in to see someone before then. I guess I'm very lucky because I would be able to get an appointment with at least one of my doctors (primary care, OBGYN, URO) or another doctor in one of their offices that would cover for them in this instance. You may want to see if they can at least do bloodwork while you are waiting to get in. If you are bleeding alot bloodwork might be helpful to rule out things like anemia, iron deficiency, or possibly infection???? I hope you get some answers soon.

Take care,
Jennifer
