I just wanted you all to know why I was gone all week. I was in the Hospital all week with some very negligent doctors. I started throwing up Monday Morning after my Husband went to work. I was so sick I couldn't move. I had to call 911 immedaitely. At some point in my Hospital stay A Doctor found out that I have severe Iron-Deficiency Anemia. I am bleeding somewhere that he didn't want to investigate. He threw 500mg of Dextran in my IV and I had Anaphalic Shock. This was yesterday. My Husband came immediately and my Mom was on the phone while it was happening. The Doctor and the nurses were laughing at me. They thought I was making it all up until the real symptoms started to show themselves. The Doctor won't admit that it happend.

I am realling from this and very scared...........

I see my primary care Monday and My Chronic Pelvic Pain Specialst next Wed.

Please keep me in your heart and prayers while we find out what is happening.

Love and Hugs,

Kara

Kara, I hate to hear this!! I wish the darn Drs would start listening to you! They can be so ignorant! Makes me SO mad!.. Do they know where the bleeding is coming from? I hope they can get this under control! Please know I am here for you if you need me..ANYTIME! You know how to reach me!!!! ((((hugs))))

They don't know where the bleeding is coming from b/c they didn't do enough testing they just wanted me out of there and they are pushing me back to my primary doc as usual. My primary is freaking..........so is the rest of my family!

As usual they didn't believe me when I went into shock. Luckily I was on the phone with my Mom and Allen came within 10 minutes.

I am at home b/c no one seems to care in the medical field.

I just have to see what happens on Monday and Wed.

Kara, I am so sorry what happened to you, but somehow I understand,my sister in law was not feeling well she went to the doctor and they said she lost some blood they gave her 4 pints of blood but could not find out where she was bleeding from. They did a colonosocpy and nothing showed, so they went down her throat and found that there were some blood vessel leaking blood. Now she has to go to a bigger hospital where they can correct this. That was a month ago and now she is bleeding and they must give her more blood. But she is diabetic, if that has anything to do with it. I will keep you in my prayers and please take care.
God Be with you.

Kara...I am so disturbed to learn that you were treated so poorly. I hope your PCP is able to get to the bottom of what is causing the bleeding.

Sending you lots of  for a speedy recovery and lots of (((hugs))) because I care about you very much. Please keep us informed about the goings on and let us know what your PCP says.

Maybe I am over reacting but isn't bleeding of unkown origin considered a medical emergency? How can any doctor not take this seriously? They need to run every test and keep looking until they find the answer. I am so sorry Kara, you are such a strong brave person, I would have given up long ago if I had to endure half of what you have. What type of diagnostic testing did they do to look for the bleed? Is there another hospital you can go to? Sorry, I am asking a ton of questions. This just baffles me. You have my number, if you lost it PM me and I'll give it to you again. If you need anything, even just someone to listen as you cry, CALL ME. I don't have to work again until Sunday night, and that is only if my patient is out of the hospital. I got cancelled tonigh b/c she had been admited. I work 8PM-8AM Sun, Mon and Thurs. Other than that I am home. I'll even give you my cell number. I hope the bleeding stops and you recover quickly. I too hope your primary will find the answer.

I am so sorry this happened to you. You just cant seem to catch a break, can you? That was so rude of the medical staff to laugh at you like that! :cussing: Believe me, I have had more than my share of horrible and insensitive Drs and nurses, but this is just about the worst treatment I have heard of!

I was thinking one thing though that might (at least somewhat), help explain why they didnt believe you. I have gone into anaphalactic shock before too, and when I did, first started cramping really bad and I threw up. I also got really, really hot and it was very hard to breathe and when I did, it was a raspy, wheezing sound. My throat, face, tongue, throat and neck all swelled up. I also got hives on my throat, face, and parts of my torso. I felt like couldnt get any air from my nose or mouth Then, I lost consciousnes because my blood pressure dropped really low.

I dont know if it was like that for you too or not, but since you mentioned talking to the Dr, your Mother, and husband., that might have been why they thought you were making it up for attention or something, (since you were able to talk.) Or, if you didnt have the other symptoms I did, then maybe your body just reacts differently to anaphalactic shock than mine or other people's. Or, you may have had a very severe allergic reaction that was worse than you have had before or maybe you had different symptoms this time than you did to other allergic reactions, so that made you think it was anaphalactic shock when maybe instead, it was a very bad allergic reaction. It is hard to say.

But, whatever the case, they had no right to laugh at you and mock you that way, especially when you needed help so desparately! Even though they were so hateful and unprofessional, I hope they still gave you the shot quickly so you didnt have to lay there suffering a moment longer!

There is nothing scarier than not being able to breathe! NOTHING! It's like that commercial states, "When you cant breathe, nothing else matters!"

Even though it would have been best to be released after they found the bleeding, personally, I think you are better off at home than a place like that! I mean the stress alone from that would have sent me into a painful flare!

About the bleeding, it may very well be a bleeding ulcer. I am sure your Primary Care will investigate that possiblity. Try keeping a food diary until you can get in to see him, (and the Gastro he will probobly refer you to see). Make notations on how you feel on an empty stomach and after eating and whether certain foods cause you abdominal pain or nausea. Also note other triggers such as stress and inadequate sleep and how these and other things factor into your pain. Also, note freq of bowel movements, whether they are painful. (Internal Hemmoroids that have ruptured due to hard stools (which are a freq problem with constapation), can also cause internal bleeding.

I know hearing "internal bleeding" sounds bad, but there are alot of different things that can cause this such as the above examples. I feel confident your PCP and Gastro will get to the botttom of this and you will feeling better in no time!

Meanwhile, keep us posted on how you are doing. I know it has been a rough week, but at least you are back home now and dont have to put up with that horrific treatement!

Sending get well wishes and kind regards,
Amaranthe

I am all alone, scared, and depressed....... I really just wanted to move on with my life and maybe be lucky enough to get pregnant. Now I know why I haven't yet.............

I had the whole anaphalactic shock symptoms that you described but instead of throwing up it came from the other end. They wanted me out of there because I am now a liability to them. They turned off the Dextran right before my throat closed up all of the way.

I just want to cry. I've been treated pretty badly over the years by some doctors but this one takes the cake other than being awake for my 9.5 hour operation in NYC when I was supposed to be put to sleep............

I just don't know anymore. I've lost my bearings when I thought I was starting to stand of more solid ground.

I just want to cry..............................

I'd love it if my phone rang. I have a billion "friends" on facebook. The only ones who wrote to me were you guys. No family members called and that upsets me even more b/c they read my facebook every day!

I just want to cry........

Kara, I am so sorry that you are going through this. Toss the residents aside and work with your attending md';s. Laughing at you. Oh now is that part of medical school training. Follow up and keep with your specialists. Hope they find your source of bleeding. You have every right to be scared. Make sure your attending md's know about the behaviour of their teaching residents on staff. Keep us posted. VIcky

I'm so sorry that you went through this! Really, I am! And they(docs) complain about expensive malpractice insurance....duh they'd better because some deserve to have the pants sued off of them!!!!! That is terrible! I'm just glad that those idiots caught it before more harm was done! I'm so sorry that you're at home in this condition! I see that the doc doesn't want to admit that they put you in shock because he or she doesn't want to get sued!
Please know that we are here for you Kara!

I'm so blown away that any medical 'professional' could laugh at someone in the hospital having an emergency! I really think you should report them to the supervisor!

I know how it is with family, I think sometimes our extended family, just gets to the point where they forget what is wrong with us, I know I've had similar feelings as you are here lately, and it does make you feel like nobody really cares, but I think they do, they just stink at showing it.

Kara,

I'm so very sorry this happened to you. I know how insensitive medical staff can be sometimes and it really hurts. You were a liability to them and when you feel better you should pursue it. What if they kill someone?

I hope you are feeling just a little bit better by now. I know it's hard to have so many things that are diagnosed AND undiagnosed...I know first hand, and it's very hard.

Your post re my liver problems was helpful to me, and I just wanted to let you know I was dismayed to read that you are going thru a real medical emergency. It is bad enough to have a crisis without the callous behavior of the medical staff adding to your woes.

Kara--When I read your post it literally made me feel sick. I can not believe that you were sent home. You must be feeling so scared right now. I can not believe you were not admitted for testing. Does this ever stop for you? Did they give you any idea of what the heck it could be. May I ask if you have had a colonoscopy in the past few years and where did they see blood. This is the most totally ridiculous things that I have ever heard of. Did they think that you had a reaction to a drug or food. Where do you live? Are you near a big teaching hospital? Gosh, I am dreadfully sorry that this has happened to you. I know with the pne that you are in horrible pain all the time and that pne does not cut you a break. You were so courageous to have the bladder removal and I am sure that you thought that would be the end of your misery. I do not know what more to say to you but you do not deserve this and there has got to be someone who can figure this all out. Did they think that maybe the pain has caused an ulcer perhaps. I know that my pain often makes me sick to my tummy a lot. I am going to pray for you right now.

I am also waiting for my Celiac Test to come back (however my Mom's came back negative and she has it.....both os us have been Gluten free for 2 years now) Also waiting for the results of another urinary tract infection so I can get on the right antibiotic.

Thank You to all of you who expressed such kind words, love and support! You know I appreciate it and it makes me feel not so alone in all of this.

Hi Kara,
I am sorry you are dealing with all this. It is so hard when you have to go through something and no one seems to care or understand ( medical field). It is sad.
As far as the celiacs tests, I hate to tell you, but the blood test is pretty worthless. The gold standard is the small bowel biopsy. I had awful gut issues for a long time and also had the celiac blood test ( it was negative) and I was told that I did not have a gluten allergy. Well, after suffering for so many years, I decided I was going to have to do this myself. I went on a strict gluten free diet and I mean strict and within 6 months I started feeling soooooo much better!! I am indeed gluten sensitive. I have a doctor who told me that you can have an allergy to gluten or be sensitive to it and not have a positive to celiacs. It happens all the time. Those tests are not perfect.

As far as the iron deficiency, I am also anemic. Not as bad as you are at the moment since they are saying you are bleeding internally. I had a friend I use to talk to on my other board I belong to ( gastroparesis group). She also had a very dangerously low iron level and they told her the same thing, that she had a slow bleed somewhere. Well after a dozen tests, they could not find a source. There are some diseases that pirate iron out of the blood, I remember reading this somewhere. I am guessing that the doctors are checking to see if you have intestinal bleeding? Also, there is the whole stomach ulcer possibility or esophageal ulcer possibility. These things can have slow bleeding over time that can lower your iron. I am sure your doc is checking into this though.

I really hope you feel better soon Kara. This is so unfair what you are going through. Sending big hugs your way!!

Kara

I agree with jen74 that the blood test is not very conclusive both my son and my husband ended up having allergry tests for gluten from a natural path, then at lest blood test twice from the gp, and a biopsiy from the gastro then gastro said until it is ruled out by biopsiy it is not ruled out. But if they thing you have a bleeding ulcer or something in that area then they will probably put a scope down your throat to have a look around and the biospiy can easily be done then.

All tests have been re-run by my primary. The Hospital Doctors were so wrong. I'm not bledding internally...........I'm just running on no iron. 6 out of 100. He's redoing my UTI on a stool sample on Friday. Things seem to be better. Let's hope I stay out of that Hospital. It's the biggest and supposed to be the best Hospital in Syracuse, NY. However, some things never change. I've run out of Hospitals in this area and there are only 2 where my Parents live and they aren't much better. My Celiac came back negative and the only way to truely test it is a biopsy and that is the last thing I want to do right now. I've been gluten free for almost 3 years and I plan to stay that way. My mother's test came back negative as well but try as we might each time we try to eat something with Gluten in it, we both get very sick, so why bother.

I hope the Holidays get a bit better.

Again, thanks for all of your support while I was going through it. It was very scary and it still makes me mad to think about what happened.

Warm Hugs,

Kara

To Kara, I read that you had Urethral removal, and PNE.
I read the website. I live in B'more, but grew up some in New York.
Could you write to me offsite to let me know what Dr to go to for
PNE diagnosis, besides Dr. Kenney in Houston, and Dr. Antulak in France?\
My name is Diane, have Vulvar vestibulitis, Vulvodynia, IC of course,
along with neuropathy, auto-immune disease,etc.
My address is BerryDG at AOL dot Com.
I am in excruciating pain in the urethra - severe when I sit, bleeding when
I put lidocaine up it, and pain getting so much worse over last 5 years,
I can't tolerate the pain anymore.

Hope you get this message.
