Dr. visits

I was dx a little over a year ago with IC and have been on Elmiron for a year. My question is: how often do you see your IC doctor once you are in remission? Is it still necessary to see the dr if you aren't having any problems at this time and if so, what exactly do they do when you see them? The last few times I've gone, I've only seen the nurse practioner and not the dr and they really only talked to me and renewed prescriptions if I needed them to be. That isn't worth it for the drive or the cost. I am scheduled to go next Wednesday, but am planning on calling to see if I actually need to come or not.

I believe a physician can order refills for for some medications a full year without seeing a patient. Even if he/she sees you only for a few minutes once a year, that fills the bill.
